I think that bites

won't make a lot of difference to me most of their prices are too high anyway. this will effectively limit some competition and that usually means higher costs
Hope I don't loose my Cabelas points.
I talk
I hope U be rite. I only have 1 credit card, Cabelas. They know my spending habits and call me if they suspect something suspicious. I had my credit froze many years ago. Don't need credit, but occasionally need credit card. I don't trust debit cards. The only thing I trust about a bank is the lock boxes.
They say some home office jobs will be combined and there will be some job lose there.
Great. Another great store will be taken down the sewer. Maybe if Johnny Morris could have won a couple tournaments years ago he would be content and quit messing things up.
With the kind of money being shelled out in this deal prices at Cabelas and BPS will probably go up!! Time will tell!!!
Heck, prices can't go up much more without pricing the average Joe fishermen out of the market completely.. I know the (rough) numbers on what the City of Memphis alone spent on the Pyramid deal (seismic refit), flimsy lease etc.. tax and tourism dollars won't ever cover it in my lifetime.. iffin I live another 35 years or so. I stick to mom and pops and grizzly jig, I like being a customer not just a number.. Not knocking, just putting in my two on the matter.
Old johnny is going to buy the hole fishing industry. He just bought ranger boats a while back. I don't think the prices will go up its more buying power but it will hurt the mom and pop places even more.

From what I heard Cabela's sales in high mark up items like clothes and shoes and stuff like that were weak and weren't able to sustain the desired cash flow outside of gun sales and and other items such as that. I heard this was cooking about a year ago and then it went off the radar. Some of the Cabela's stuff was high enough to lose my interest and some of their rods were real nice. I just hope this doesn't make BPS start feeling like the king of the hill more than they do now or I'll have to stay away from them more also. I buyvery little from them because of their pricing but when they have what you need right now and no shipping blah, blah, blah..... we sometimes do what we have to do.
In one way it's going to be interesting to see what happens. Years ago Cabela's bought Gander Mountains mail order division and they couldn't start it again for a lot of years if they ever decided to get back into it, which I see they have but not a lot of stuff on the site. We have one across the lake in NY and I stopped in one time - More depressing than when I went into a BPS!!
Ship I hear ya on making my own, my Uncle started me out when I was 10 helping out - but I'm gonna be in the crapper if the environmentalists ban lead in Vermont!! Believe me I go to any meetings on it!!
If all the brains that are supposed to be in this country would come up with a substitute that was exactly like lead but wasn't hazardous and was offered for a decent price I'd switch!! But that wouldn't happen - whoever came out with such a product would charge big bucks for it!!
I guess I'll stick to Tackle Warehouse, Academy, Dicks, & Gander Mtn.
Oh that really sucks. Cabelas sells much higher quality stuff than BPS. Serious gear. They were a great outfitter.
Now now it will be all about gimmicky stuff and profit. Ugh.
From what I've heard :
The two store "names/brands" will remain the same ... just owned by the same people.
Points, credit/gift cards, etc. will be interchangeable between stores. (eventually ??)
It remains to be seen if this pans out, but it would seem to me to be far less expensive to leave the stores "as is" and just be the owners of both brands. :dono
Article from today:
Cautiously Optimistic About the Bass Pro Shops-Cabela’s Merger | The Resurgent
Cabelas is to expensive anyways. They sell a few things that BPS doesnt. That's the only products I buy from them. Most things are a dollar more.
Don't know what the out come might be .......but I do think both could do some work on price levels
Cabela's has the finest meat processing equipment around (grinders, slicers, etc.) and are the best. I know, I've gone through several brands through the years. The Cabela's products keep going strong, and I highly recommend them.
I am like "a kid in a candy store" when I get a chance to go to Cabelas . Bass Pro . Dick's Sporting goods , Gander Mountan , because they all have a better selection than are local Walmart.. What I really miss is the local owned an run bait an tackle shops that just can not compete with the big guys .. like the local hardware store , the local owned bank , 5 and 10 cent store ,the hobby shop and slot car track . I try to always stop and buy something from one where ever I find them. They are fading away in the sunset..
