Awesome job BRM!!!!!
That was a great finish and Bill and Jerry deserve it for all their pre-fishing and preparation! ! There were 196 teams registered and I think 187 teams actually made it to the water for the tournament. Two cold fronts right before the event all but shut down the bite and made the conditions nearly impossible. Where large sacks of slabs were being brought in during prefishing those same teams were now struggling just to catch a keeper. Only 71 teams were able to weigh in 7 fish on day one!! Bill and Jerry were able to make critical adjustments and compensate for the changing conditions and went from 44th place on day one to finish at 14th place overall. They are to be commended for being able to figure the bite out that quickly and get back on the good fish. David and I were at 47th place on day one but were only able to bring it up to 35th place overall. Every tournament on Lake Grenada is a new learning experience and this one was no different. About the time you think you have that lake figured out it will turn around and kick you in the seat of the pants and throw you another curve ball to figure out, LOL! I also want to congratulate my old Magnolia Crappie Club partner Brad Chappell who fished with Brandon Fulgham to finish in 5th place.
Great job guys. I didn't think y'all where tourney fishing together anymore?
Congratulations Steve, Bill, and Jerry for ya'lls finish. Sounds like s tough few days fishing. Being able to adapt to the changing conditions is signs of the seasoned fisherman.
Brm what did y'all do to catch better fish the second day.
We moved. Lol
We had really good fish located in 5 spots, and eaters in a few others. We caught almost 14lbs on Wednesday in one area in about 2 hours fishing. We didn't fish Thursday because the wind pounded the bank we fished on. We started in that hole Friday morning and only caught one fish by noon because the water had been muddied by the wind on Thursday and even tho the fish were still there, we couldn't get them to bite. We hit our other spots, and by 1:00 we only had 3 fish. We decided to hail Marry and fish a spot we'd caught decent eaters to try and catch 7. At 1:30 we dropped our poles and caught 4 fish in about 15 minutes. Wound up catching two more for a weight of 10.25 on day one and 44th place.
Day two we decided to catch our 7 in that area and we started there. First fish we caught was 2.33. We had figured out that the fish had moved to the shallows with the cooler water temps from two cold fronts last week so we moved up from where we started and caught 12.76 on day two to move up to 14th place. We caught EVERY fish on a Minner Critter that Jerry had custom tied for this tourney. It was a prototype design that smoked em. Only had 6 Critters that color or it might have been different. We missed a Hawg with 20 minutes to go that would have put us in the top 7-8, but everyone misses a few. That's fishing. The Good LORD blessed us with those 4 keepers on day one to keep us in the hunt. HE blessed us again on day two with a pig with 45 minutes to go, and tried to give us another with 20 minutes to go. As stated, we missed that opportunity tho.
Good job men! Ya'll may be getting the hang of this crappie fishin.
Great story almost as good as being there watching ya
Congratulations to all of you who fished. Good stuff.
Chris
Congratulations for sure! Great job!
great job
Congratulations guys that is a great finish with that kind of competition.
Arkansasbowhunter I was there to watch Bill and Jerry. We fished that area all day Friday and saw them come in and whack em. Fished within sight of them all day Saturday too. We came in 17th and wondered how we might have done if they hadn't come in there and picked off of few more of those 2 lb'ers we were after. Bill and Jerry were great guys to meet and hope to run into them on the water again sometime. Great job guys.
Congrats
Congrats fellas!
Jerry and I are only fishing the Crappie Masters together now. He just doesn't have the time to do the MCC and the other tourneys. I've got another partner for those events and the new American Crappie Trail. It's tough knowing he won't be there for those tourneys, but I understand how busy he is. Guiding, tying jigs and Critters, and a sporting goods store to run, etc. He retired only to go to work. Lol
He'll be missed at those other tourneys!!!!
We wondered the same thing about the fish you picked off, but we both caught the fish that bit us. No way to catch them all, and there were plenty there to share. I doubt we hurt each other. We weren't the only boats back there anyways, and y'all did have all day Friday there before we came over. Y'all were 150 yards away on those flats when we caught those 4 fish in ten minutes on that ledge. Y'all came to us then. Lol
We had fished that spot twice before and it was actually our 5th spot. It just worked out the way it did. Our best fish just wouldn't bite up the river so we came in just to get 7 on the first day. Only had 3 fish when we got there at 1:30 Friday. The Good LORD blessed us with 6 more that last hour and a half. [emoji4]
Nice meeting you guys. We enjoyed getting to know y'all. Congrats on a great finish.
