Finial Touches

Everyone knows when you get something new you have to make it user friendly for yourself. I've added a few things to my new ride that will help me out. The first thing I did was install a Kipawa prop to the trolling motor. I've had these props on all my trolling motors and had great results from them, especially when trolling in the wind. It is the best $35 that I have spent. There is a web site, tinboats.net, that has a good article on these props. It talks about the pros and cons with this prop. Check it out.

Second thing I did was make me some trailer guide post. Don't know about ya’ll, but once you have these, you can't do without them. Over the years these things have spoiled me when putting the boat on the trailer, especially in the wind. Pull the boat on the trailer between the 2 post and your good.

Last thing I did was to install LED's in my live wells, storage compartments, under the console, and under the inside rail to light up the floor for the early mornings and late evenings.

Thanks Benny. I have been very blessed to be able to have a boat like this. Remember that it's not the boat that catches the fish, it's the fisherman. I'm sure if we fish side by side that you'll catch just as many fish as me if not more. See you out there very soon.:fish.

i like my stick steering boat better . had steering wheal boats that is to much work for a old man to get up and go to the front to fish .

with some of my friends they can not caught fish so they like to ride nice. you know the dill.

Because they aren't going to be used but 30 minutes here and there, I went with the old style leds under the rail. I think the number is something like 3825:dono. Found them on Amazon for $8 a 16' roll. Inside the storage and live well compartments I used led driving lights for cars. Found them for a $1.50 each on Amazon. Bought some clear heat shrink and sealed the driving lights with the shrink wrap and filled the ends with silicone. All in all I have about $45 tied up in the leds and that includes the 3 toggle switches, (I don't think that is a bad deal). Used them for the first time the other morning. Made it so much easier to move around in the boat and finding things in the compartments.

That lighting setup is sweet! I see a similar project in my future.

Do you have it wired to the cranking battery or its on separate battery?

I have them hooked up to the cranking battery. The front live well and front storage compartments are on one switch. The back live well and side storage compartment is on its own switch. And the leds under the inside lip and console are on their own switch. I did it this way so I can turn on the lights that I need and not have them all burning at the same time. If I were going to be using them more often, I would hook them up to a separate battery. Here is a pic of the leds I used in the live wells and storage compartments. Google drl leds to find them on line. I have already put heat shrink on this one and sealed the ends with silicone. And as a side note for all you night time fisherman, I have submerged these in a bucket of water for an hour or so and they burned with no problem.

I've used those 6.5 " led strips and they work like a champ. Brightest ones I've used by far and cheap too.

I made the rod holders to fit the angle of the front and back of the boat. The back was just the standard 90 degree angle (two 45 degree cuts) and the front, if I remember correctly was a 39 degree angle. One cut at 20 degrees and one at 19 degrees. They are made out of 1 inch stainless steel tubing and coated with the stuff they use for bed liners in your truck.

Don't look at the welding job to closely. I don't consider myself a welder....but it holds. I used 2" ss flat bar, 1/4 inch thick, and bent the one end so I could bolt it to the fender. The other flat bar didn't need to be bent other than to get the angle at the top. Then I attached the 1.5" ss square tubing to it. I slid a piece of 2" pvc over the tubing to find where it needed to be welded on the flat bar and give me a 1" clearance on both sides. As you can see, I bolted the flat bar to the fender and to the frame of the bunk pad. Next I cut a piece of 2" pvc the same angle as the flat bar, gave it a couple of inches to spare, then cut the pvc as long as I needed it. Doing it this way allows the pvc to rotate if the boat brushes the pipe. Capped to finish it off and make sure to drill a hole in the top of the cap to allow the air to escape. Hope this helps and didn't confuse ya'll to much.
