Anyone fish the Pea River? I am thinking of trying it out south of the dam in Elba. I understand the spotted bass fishing is decent but I am interested in how good the crappie fishing is there.

Welcome to cdc! I can't help with the pea river but I can offer some general ifo. In the fall I mainly shoot docks. Also you might find some on deep brush piles.

Thanks for the reply Lowe. And thank you for the welcome.
My wife and I love crappie fishing. I grew up crappie fishing with my mom and dad in Pintlala creek, the Alabama river, and lake Jordan. I joined the military in 88 and when I married, I proceeded to show her the way of crappie fishing. Well, am not that good at it, but when we were stationed in NC, we had a couple of really good days. She is hooked. We spent the last ten years stationed in Germany and just now returned home to Alabama. I am stationed at Ft. Rucker and intend on buying a boat soon - one suitable for spider rigging for two people in the front. Do you know the better crappie spots in SE Alabama? My guess is Eufala is good.
John Doe,
Wished I could help or you were closer to Northern Alabama. I retired from the Army in 2011 and moved to Huntsville working with the Corps of Engineers. I remember those long, forced breaks from fishing while stationed overseas or deployed. Welcome back home and thank you for your service.
By the way, some of the best waters are small and local. Ft Rucker has several small lakes with Crappie!
Thanks Ditch - TY for your service as well. I'm looking hard, real hard and meeting people left and right! Can't wait to have my boat and getting on the water.
I retired from AD in 2011 as well. Currently employed and still serving with US Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Almost landed a job with the Corp of Engineers in Daphne but didn't work out.
Love your fishing AAR's ...LOL! You are killing them
I started fishing from a kayak as an inexpensive way to get off the bank when I had too many bills, kids, commitments and responsibilities. It seems I had everything but time or money, LOL. Anyway, later I could buy or do what I wanted, but I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the backwaters so much I stayed with it. I might run into a few other small craft, but never any water flies with their jet skies and big power boats.
JD, welcome to the site. Eufala has some great crappie, but its big water fishing. Thanks for your service! Hung the green suit up myself in 2001 now working as a DAC.
Thank you for your service to our country. I cannot help you on south Ala. but would guess Eufala would be your best bet for spider rigging in that area.
Thanks for your service buddy. Eufaula is a very good lake never fished it myself but there's a few guys on the Georgia board that fish it and do well. Be sure to check there for ifo on Eufaula. Lots of good people on the Georgia board too. I do fish west point some in the spring. Not sure how far that is far you but if you get up that far let me know.

Welcome JD. I'm from around that area. Eufaula is good in the spring. It's tough this time of year. Several of the county lakes has good crappie fishing. If you don't mind traveling some. The opportunity is endless. Within 1 1/2 hours of you is lake Jordan an the Alabama river. Lake Seminole and lake talquin. All great places to fish.

Martin soon as it cools off a Lil! Welcome to the forum...,would love to do a fish camp out at eaufaula but don't know where to go! Look
Nun
thank you for your service to our country. Never fished Eufaula. Lake Talquin in North Fla is a super crappie lake. Not all that far from Eufaula. If you are ever in north Ala and want to try Weiss or Guntersville give me a shout
I'm glad you mentioned Coffee County Lake - the wife and I took a drive to Elba to gander at the lake Monday. Since I don't have a boat yet, and they rent jon boats for $5 a day, this is probably the best way for to get into some crappie until I get a boat. I drove out to Geneva County Lake a few days earlier and it looks promising too! Will look at Dale County Lake soon as well.
Hope to get out there between now and the 1st of October. I won't have electronics, but both lakes have been mapped to give us an idea on where to fish. Surely we will lose a few baits/minnows but hope to find them.
