Back to trolling
Grabbed Ernie up about 6 this morning and we headed out to visit with the early season folks. Lots of clouds had me apprehensive about whether or not it was just a boat ride and a wet butt. Got a little wet once and spit on a couple of times. Had all the rods set up before I left the house so it was just a matter of getting them out. Tried a little of everything for color and style and had fish in the box in no time. We didn't set the world on fire but we did find enough to interrupt our conversation pretty regularly. We went back and forth where his would get hit and mine wouldn't and then the tables would turn for a while. After most of the boats had gone, wind was picking up as another approaching storm moved in, Ernies 10' rod doubled over hard. Drag squealing and not able to turn it for a while, we both wondered if we would ever see what it was. Several minutes later we boated and weighed a 5 1/2 lb whisker trout and took pics to make him famous before sending him home. It wasn't long before the scenario repeated but after most of the fight was over and he was making headway the line parted, but not before we got a look at the other trouts smaller cousin. I'd guess about 3+lbs. By now another complete soaking was eminent and the wind was getting stiffer yet so we wrapped and headed back. HS would say the ride back was sporty. Had to run upwind to get to the east side of the lake, then turn south and more downwind to make the ramp. Running across the swells was just dumb in these conditions. Good to see Jeff and the boys, HS and the wife enjoying the new ride, and I believe it was Clint in a nice Tracker. A little hard of hearing and the wind made it tough to hear. Looking forward to what will only get better in the coming weeks. A cooler shot and Ernie with his big fish of the day. Thanks for visiting with me today.

Good post and enjoyed the pics. Congrats

Sporty ride, yes sir, but what had ran me off in the past is a walk in the park for the bay boat. I was able to do whatever I had wanted today, but not before. Good seeing yall out there.

Not to shabby Skeet, we pulled out probably a 1/2 before you, be sure to tell Ernie it was a pleasure meeting him, he'll have to come to a outing.....

Can you tell I needed a nap? I didn't even talk about or give the count on the catch today. Clicker said 22 with the Kitty's, 1 greenie, 1 gar and 7 solid keepers over 12, 1 or 2 might have scratched at 13 but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Plenty for the neighbor lady that works hard and takes care of her Mom, always a big smile when I have fish for her. Y'all go get you some!!!

Skeet, believe that was me in the Red Tracker. We did not get on the lake until 0730 and then had problems with a brand new trolling motor. That took a hour, turned out to be operator error. Spoke with Huntinslabs and he said his best luck was early, so guess we missed the best bite. Lake is still rather new to us so our learning curve is high.

Great report skeet..........nice cat too !!

Sorry for the mistake Glenn. Hearing isn't what it used to be when there's a background noise, like the wind. I always go early and quit early. More often than not the bite, for me, quits sometime before noon. I'm ready for a nap by then anyway!
