Very Scared

At this very moment I am sitting in the emergency room in Grayling with my wife. No one here on CDC know her, but let me tell you, she is the kindest, most giving person on the planet, and the 34 years I have been with her has been amazing. The doctor just came in and they are getting ready to take my wife in for a catscan. The doctor is very concerned that there may be a mass in my wifes throat, and, or upper lung. Neither of us has ever been religious people, and maybe it's wrong of me to ask, but would you all please pray for my wife. Thank you all.

Thank you all. Just got an update from the doctor. My wife is being air lifted via helicopter to the University of Michigan Medical Center this evening. She'll be there in no time but it will be a couple hour drive for me so I won't know more until I get there. Will update again once I know more.

Another update on Dawn. She is out of her first surgery. This surgery was strictly to open her air way. The mass had her airway closed to only the size of a drinking straw. They took samples of the mass and are now trying to figure out what it actually is and what may have caused it. She will be here for at least 5 days, and quite possibly more. Right now they have a tracheotomy tube?, hole in her throat, so that she can breathe, and it will make it much easier for them to get her oxygen if she starts having further issues. She can't talk for now, and probably won't be able to for a day or so. Will post more later. Hoping to go see her soon. They did say that it is a good thing that I forced her to go to the ER today because if she had started having a serious breathing issue like she has the past couple days, and we were somewhere not very close to a hospital, she might not have made it through it.

That is good news to hear. I live within an hour of U of M hospital. If you need a place to stay, shower, rest, whatever, my door is open to you.

Thank you everyone. Today one of the doctors that assisted in the Tracheostomy surgery came in first thing this morning and really gave us both an eye opener as to just how serious of a situation this was. Dawn was literally on deaths door step and it was probably only a matter of days before I could have lost her. Hit us both pretty hard and she's taking it a bit rough, but good. One big thing I have learned from this is that my wife is a very tough woman and I don't think I'll mess with her any more unless I am looking for a good butt kickin.

Well my wife has been home a week now and is doing great. Have had to make a few changes in our daily routines, but other than that it's ok. Still no word on what caused the issue, and, the last visit with all the doctors, surgeons, and specialist of various aspects available at U of M, they still had no idea and said it is very likely that they may never figure out what caused it. The blockage to her air way (trachea) is still there and will remain for quite some time, but they are discussing the possibility of reconstructive surgery in the future. If they can't do reconstructive surgery, or Dawn doesn't want it because it is a major surgery, then they may possibly go in and open the air way as much as possible with out total reconstruction. This would be just to maintain a path for air to flow so that she will retain her speech, as the blockage appears to be an ongoing process and they don't want her trachea to become completely closed. Thanks again everyone.

Sounds like the Doctors have a plan , but a lot of traveling in Michigan weather coming . will add a extra word to keep you both safe. Like chicken soup...can't hurt..

Sounds like God has a plan also...You might want to thank him yourself....I truly believe prayer can, and will help...Just go to him and ask....We will all keep praying also...
