Would definitely like to hear from the pros around here, since I am going to be pouring
and painting RR jigheads this winter. Please chime in!
I've always wrapped tin foil around the swivels, then powder them and then pull the tin foil and cure the heads.

BD, I use 1/8 heat shrink. Buy it in 4 ft sticks from Bluff City Electronics in Memphis. I cut it about 1/4 in long, slide over swivel. Hold by eye with curved tip forceps, heat it until it shrinks then finish heating head. Dip in paint then into a cup of water. Then I use small pocket knife to cut shrink off swivel then clean any paint off hook eye.
Heat the head and dip just the swivel in ice water then dip in powder and run back over the heat source to blend down the paint.
I just barely just dip the barrel in water. Don't submerge the whole barrel or dip too long or you'll cool the head and get a blob of powder paint at the base of the swivel. Takes practice but once you'll get the hang of it, it goes quickly and no need wrapping or placing anything on swivel. Takes all of a second extra in painting process to dip in water. I also re-dip the whole head in water once I put paint on it to cool head. After head has completely cooled I give the barrel a twist to insure both sides of barrel swivel.

Take a Mustad 3366A hook eye and cast it in your mold. Paint your jig and add swivel after painting and curing. I do it all the time and the swivel is more free swinging I believe.
Ok thanks guys
I like your trick but I use 3366 hooks for fly tying. Do you have any problems with the blade tangling with your materials with extra length by using the hook eyelet?
You know how us old farts get set in our ways!!
Just had back surgery and cannot get down stairs to my shop. Will take a pic of the modified hook eye when i can get down there. I basically do a ninety degree bend about a 1/8' above the eye and then cut the barb section off. the little ninety degree bend secures it in the casting.I open the eye slightly before casting it. I have seen no problem with blade tangling with the body materials.
Thanks for the info - but I'd sure have to pick another hook if I decided to try it!!!!!!!LOL
Do you guys that do the water dip method have a video on it?? When I'm just sitting around I foil them and store them until I'm ready to powder which is usually the winter.
Hey "z520Tom" sorry to hear about the surgery, but glad to hear you're recuperating!
Thanx for posting on how you get them to stay in the head. I'll have to give that a try
when I begin to pour RR heads this winter.
Speedy Recovery and Tight Lines (when U get out) Dave
Also sorry to hear of the surgery. Had it done myself and I know it's no fun. Speedy recovery and good results.

This is the Mustad 3366A #8 hook I make the insert for these horse head jigs. I can powder paint jigs and tie the bodies without having the swivel get in my way. I add the #14 swivel with spinner and close the eye with my pliers. You can buy these hooks for $4.45 / 100. Most inserts for molds cost around 8 cents apiece so these are cheap in my opinion. These were 1/16oz jigs. They are easy to make. Slightly open eye, bend with needle nose pliers and cut with end cutters.
Cool thanks for the pict it helps clarify
