What will you be using to power the boat? Trolling motor with foot pedal, ipilot, outboard?
i will start out using foot controlled trolling motor.
I'd go over to ezpoleholder.com and take a look at the spyderlok's and see which style will suit you best.
First year I ever pulled cranks for crappie....we held the rods in our hands....our old bass fishing rods. We caught crappie all summer. Try it like that and see if you like it before you spend a lot of money.
Spyder Loks are as good as you can get........I know after trying four other kinds

TITE-LOC!# 1
Drift master single rod holders . Go ahead and drill it gonna happen sooner or later.
Lots of good holders on the market. All have there pro's and cons. I like the individual holders for pushing because they don't vibrate every holder on a T-Bar when a fish hits a pole. I use Tite Lok 5841 T-Bars for pulling. I like the little notch in the sides of the rod holders. They help catch the pressure of the rod and hold it. They work great pushing, but there is a secret to get infinite left and right adjustments on them. You just remove the pin washer when pushing and put a 1 1/4x 5/16 rubber fender washer under the holders and they spread out exactly where you want them. A big catfish might move them some, but a crappie won't. Works like a champ!!! I use the pin washer for pulling.
i got two of the four pole spider loks on the back and two of the four pole hi-tecs on the front..never had a problem with either. if you go with the hi-tecs be sure and get the deep seat version, forget what they call em.. good luck, WS
