Looking for any info on Toledo Bend. I would like to try it but know nothing about the lake or times of the year that may be better that other times. I would also be camping if anyone knows of a good campground.
Thx

Here is a list of links to a few parks. I like staying at San Miguel, North and South Toledo Bend State Parks. South Toledo Bend State Park is my favorite to stay at. They San Miguel area has more attractions in the area. Don't eat at the Mexican restaurant next to Toledo Tackle, we all got sick. Do go across the lake and eat at the BBQ place and buy an extra pie to go. As far as fishing I can't help you. I would suggest hiring a guide the first day and then go from there from what they are doing.
Don we have eaten at the Mexican restaurant several times and were very satisfied, and no problems with the food.
Stripitboy I also suggest a guide. The lake is large and the variables are many. A guide should be able to put you on fish right away as they have hundreds of brush piles for you to fish.
"gene"
deep brush piles..san miguel has good facilities......
I second what Gene said about the Mexican restaurant, we eat there four or five times a year and enjoy it. Toledo Bend is huge with over 1,200 miles of shore line, so it's different in the various areas. Variables are many for sure. I like the SRA San Miguel campground as well. Not the hustle and bustle of the state campgrounds, plus lab friendly unlike the state campgrounds. I do not stay at places otherwise. If they're not welcome, then neither am I. San Miguel facilities are nice and off the main lake when the wind gets bad (which it does at times), isolated, covered boat house, etc.
We have the annual Toledo Bend crappie.com gathering the last weekend of February each year. Huge fun, come join us then.
Mexican restaurant next to Toledo Tackle is closed.....there is another one about a block away across from Big Star grocery store.....I like Cypress Bend Campground.....and my favorite months to fish the Bend are April and October.....hth......PM me for the name of a guide that you may want to avoid.....a coworker, his dad, and 14 yr old son were cussed out for fishing a brushpile by a guide, who also had clients on his party barge.
Thx for the info. I will check out SRA San Miguel & Cypress Bend Campground . I also PM'd you MO Slab
As Tracker123 said, come down the last weekend in February and join the rest of us from CDC. Can't promise to put you on any fish as the last 2 years have been rough! But I can promise you that you will eat GREAT and meet some GREAT people!
i second what shadow says.......it is a great time with great folks!!!!!!!
Look back at all the older Post of Toledo Bend gathering. it is hard to beat San Miguel. My Brother Just got a new Map at Bass Pro and it has Conture lines with Depths. the Channel are numbered if you get lost --- you can find your way. The stump flats are clearly marked too
Same is true with the Navionics phone app Larry. Tight contour lines, boat lanes, GPS feature, able to mark waypoints, tracking, etc. A well spent $10 in my opinion.
