Best place to Buy mutible Cranking rods and reels ?

I know that I'm fixing to spend some money if I were to buy the rods and reels at the same time ( 8 ) each for cranking . I guess I want counter type reels and rods with a MH action . I'm not kennel blind so the best brand is the important thing . I do like cork handles but not a must have . Do any of you know where you can buy 8 rods at one time at some kind of discount and 8 reels the same way . I do have a question as to what length rods I need . Some people stagger there lengths and others stay with one length . Any thoughts would be appreciated . I have found 1 rod here 1 rod there in local stores so I'm sure I'll have to go to the internet . Somebody on here has a idea what to do I know . Thanks

If you plan on pulling off the sides directly behind the boat then stagger your rods, 16,12,8 etc. if you plan on using planer boards then use all the same length that are short enough where you can remove the board without having to stand up and reach for it.

I don't think you're going to find a one place has the best price on BOTH rods and reels. I've bought rods from Grizzly Jig and Monks Crappie at different times because of price and shipping. So far my favorite line counter reel is the Diawa Accudepth and I've bought them at different places as well. But I looked at the link above Franks Great Outdoors and thought he had the best price on the 47LCB that I use. I know several guys who use the cheaper Okuma's but I didn't care for them as much as the Diawa's I also have some of the Cabelas Depthmaster line counter reels, they're ok, but I won't buy any more of them, too many problems with the line counter reset button. I also agree that it depends on how you're going to troll cranks as to whether you want staggered lengths of rods or all the same length. Whether you're going to pull them off the sides or back of the boat or going to push them off of the front. I've done it all three ways, but mainly pull off the back of the boat so I have 8's, 10's, 12's and 14 ft rods. I have some cheaper Pinnacles that I've gotten by with for several years but I think the handle is too short from the reel to the end of the handle. The BnM PST's are longer and fit my holders better. I will say go ahead and buy good stuff and don't do like I did and try and get by as cheap as possible, because it will ultimately cost you more in the long run than getting the right stuff the first time.

I agree, if I can't fish with the Diawa linecounters I just use metered line, haven't found another linecounter I care for.

the main difference I have found is I can cast the diawa's, if I loosen up the drag enough to cast the okumas then the line will get between the spool and the frame and is a pain in the neck. I cast mine in place most of the time.

I never cast a line counter reel.....I know some do but they are not really designed to cast. I just drop the crankbait in the water and let it pull the line out the distance I want. Been using the Okumas for 8 years now no problem....when the buttons get sticky I spray them down with Reel Magic.
I bought some of the new Shakesphere line counter reels from Grizzly Jig but have not tried them yet.

Agree with G, was something for me to get used to as far as not casting but dropping, dragging and counting. Depends on how you pull OP, planers or straight? I pull straight line to lure, and use side pulling as well as direct behind the boat. Straight line to lure I'm sold on B'n'M PST rods, I can detect the slightest defect on my lure. I bought 4 shakespeare-ats-trolling-reel's couple months back, seem to do well and are fairly accurate, only problem is no in between on drag imo. Now that being said, I'm still waiting on that one fish... any day now we hope [emoji23]

Maybe the Okumas aren't designed for casting and that's cool but if I can't have one in my rig I can cast then I just won;t have one, will use my depth hunter line instead. To each their own.

Have to let ol Snubbys try one of them okuma reels one day. Like I said that was my first disappointment and got used to with the line counter. Not really an issue until you need to get a line back fishing again.. that drop and drag takes a minute to get back out. I still fish with spinning reels as well.. and guesstimate, fish ain't seemed to mind it so far I reckon [emoji106]

I just let them freespool,I have casted them back out some.When I went on a guided trip with bigger jigger years ago he casted them out too,he was using okumas.

Yep....That's dead on about the line getting between spool and the frame. Has happened to me several times.

Are you using the 15's or 20's? This I why I went to 20's exclusively. Much better reel for $2 more.

Put a piece of 1/2 inch pipe insulation on them and they won't sink. One of mine got hung and jumped out of the holder on Monday and I just made a big loop and picked it back up.

I cast mine out. I use the daiwa accudepth icv 15. Digital line counters for me. Didn't like the sticky springs on the okumas personally.

Grizzly jig or monks has best prices on rods. Reels can be bought also off eBay. Okumas when I used them were cheaper from north woods. Buy quality in the beginning and will save money in long run.

Most important add the flotation device to the rod as you will one day have one pulled out or knocked out of the boat lol.

Advice from weekend warrior lol.

I definitely agree on the Daiwa Accudepth. I own several of both the Daiwa and the Okuma Magda Pros. For a little bit more money, I feel that the Daiwa is a much better reel.
