Do any of you ever fish the Little Maumelle River in Little Rock? I am new to the area and I have not fished it much, but I hear that it is a hotbed for large crappie.
Could someone please tell me the in's and out's of the Little Maumelle.

Boy are you in luck. Ceb is the resident pro on this river. He and gooch are putting on a meet this weekend and are going to share some locations. Try to make it at the river road ramp around 4 saturday evening.

I will be out of town this weekend, but I would love to have some contact info for you guys. I live in Pleasant Vally in LR, and my cell phone is 501-351-0808. Thanks for your help.
I may have my neighbor come. His name is Craig. I am assuming that is the ramp under the 430 bridge. Am I correct?
Yes. Take the 1st light from 430. It is at the intersection of Cantrell and Rodney Pahram. You and I are practically neighbors. I live in Pleasant Heights. It is a neighborhood on top of the mountain above Hillsbourough.Quote:

Great, I would love to meet you and learn a little bit about the Little Maumelle. The few times I have been, I have put in at River Valley Bait and gone up toward P. Mountain and fished all the cedars up there. I have not figured out, though, where the hot spots are up there. I understand that there are 3 old lakes up there that run in the river, but I have not found them. I have really enjoyed fishing in the area that runs between the Little Maumelle and the lake that is in the Ranch Subdivision. I have had some luck there, but not enough to keep me going back.
BTW, I used to live on Saddle Hill in Hillsbourough.
Welcome to the board LRJoe. I too live in Pleasant Valley and love the fact that the Little Maumelle I-430 ramp is five minutes away from the house. I've been fishing the Little Maumelle for about a year and have caught most crappie (and bream) between the I-430 bridge and River Valley Marina. I'm still trying to figure it out.
CEB who posts here a lot has really worked the area and has had more luck than anyone else I've met. I've watched him several times working it hard, trolling five or six poles. I'm a one pole fisherman so I've not caught as many, but I've caught a few nice ones.
Good luck and let us know how it goes. I'm having to lay low recently as I had bypass surgery Jan. 2 and still haven't been let loose to fish yet. Once I'm up and going, I'll give you a shout.
Joe
Give me a call on the cell when you are ready. I am always looking for someone to go with. 501-351-0808
Hey Joe, welcome to the website. You can go up to the search bar and look up the Little Maumelle. You'll find lots of old info from the lower section of the creek.
We can trade off some info. I can fill you in on the lower section, and you can fill me in on the upper section. I know that each have their own times of productivity, so it will help both of us out.
You wouldn't happen to be an ASU grad?
I am an Arkansas State Indian inside and out.
How long will the Hogs Run????????
Thanks for the info. I would love to meet you and fish the river with you. I was out there on Sunday, and the shad kill has killed the fishing. There were dead shad everywhere.
Hey Joe, ASU alum here too.
I haven't been fishing the river too much here lately. But, I did fish it all last year with reasonable success. The best fishing that I've seen out there is when it really picked up after the spawn (May-July) down at the mouth of the Little Maumelle. I caught lots of BIG crappie during those 3 months. Normal winter day last year was about 8-12 crappie, with some nice ones mixed with smaller ones.
The past few weeks, I've been going to Conway. The fishing there has really turned on here lately. Let me know if you want to go do a little fishing one afternoon, and I'll show you how I catch them...
Welcome LRJoe.:D I fish Nimrod now almost exclusively. Years ago when I was a Green Carp (Largemouth Bass tournament fisherman) ,I used to fish Little Maumelle. Those Cedar trees you talk about ,could they be the big Cypress Trees above the pipeline ? That is a nice area for Bass.
