They get ripe in July-August, depending on rain and other factors, Donald. Keep watching 'em....they're gettin' close! Like Rees said, defend yourself with repellent. They are chigger heaven!

I pick a mix of the wild ones, thornless ones and these hook thorn ones. I picked a gallon last week and 2 gallons yesterday. There are still a lot of red ones.
I rinse them twice, freeze them in quart bags for later use.
stormcloud, I looked online. Gold lids are hard to find in Ball. May have to look at Golden Harvest or Kerr. Might be wrong, I think Kerr and Ball are the same company now.
