I've tried several different small swimbaits. They worked for me, but I just didn't enjoy using them as much as I do jigs. Don't know why, it's just the way it is for me.
Not trying to sell. Not my sponosr. They catch fish! We really like Arkie's sexy tail shad.Use these as a swim bait for crappie.Have really had good success this spring and summer. All colors catch fish. Arkie has the perfect recipe for plastic's.
I always get confused about the term "swimbaits". What exactly does this mean? I've got an order in for some Lake Fork segmented bodies plastics (2"). I suppose these are swimbaits? But then again, anything you cast out and retrieve can be called a swimbait, can it not? Hope someone can steer me right.
I always associated "swimbait" with being a shad/minnow shaped body that had a boot tail/paddle tail .... like a Strike King Shadalicious or YUM Money Minnow.
Lake Fork does make a "swimbait" (Boot Tail Live Magic Shad) with those attributes.
If you look at all the different brands of baits that have a "swimbait" designation, the overall connecting factor is that most of them do have a "boot tail/paddle tail" ... regardless of whether they're simple or complex in body design or coloration.
I agree with CP.......when I think swimbait I think of spear/paddle tail softbait. So I forgot I even had these baby shad swim'r tails by Bobby Garland that are suited with a mini paddle tail.....paired it with a 1/16 Road Runner!

If you like those ... check out the Contest forum, as I'm running another TTI Blakemore Slabalicious Road Runner giveaway !!
Thanks CP heading their now....I actually caught several crappie on that this evening but none of legal size ;(
All I use is swimbaits....the craws are swimmers also!
I've always thought of "Swimbaits" as those large Bluegill-type baits that are very heavy.
I have those BG Electric Chicken Baby Shads and Itty Bittys. Also have both in different colors. The Itty Bittys are very attractive to dinks in my area. The button-tail also seems to make a big difference. I've seen the same baits missing the button-tail that couldn't get a hit.
yeah i am with yawl on that "swim" baits seem to always have paddles on the tail ......but if i am gunna "swim" somethin .....
i promise it will be a GO GO MINNOW .....nothing swims like them things FOR SURE ......
and you know who makes them ? .....hahahaha
Hey Ketchn
If you are saying the Go Go Minnow has a distinct movement and action then I will agree with you....but the best movement and action can be found in other swimbaits.
Not all swimbaits have paddle tails....but most people only have experiences with that type!:)
Caught 7 nice crappies longlinning 3 inch fire tiger ripple shade on Grenada Lake two weeks ago. My friends fishing in the tournament gave me the side eye. Lol
Ketchn....I have watched several vids of the owner of Fle Fly and his products, have not tried the go go minnow yet! Nice to hear their working for you! Was thinking about ordering a few!Quote:

So, if I'm getting this straight, the term swimbait requires a boot tail on that back? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but if that is what it is. :)
I took a friend out on the lake with me a couple weeks back. I told him what had been working for me but he wanted to try his favorite stuff to see how they stacked up. Didn't work out so hot until he tied on a Storm 2" wild eye bluegill. He started getting some quality bites in short order. They have a big treble hanging off the belly, made him get hung up a few times but a couple of the fish came in hooked with the treble only so I think it might need to stay, for panfish anyways.
Jim Zeiner came up with the "swim tail" at least 35 years ago. I have literally caught thousands of crappie on them.

.....Let me clarify things.....I did say typically I associate swimbaits with paddle/spear tails. However, Crest you are correct a swimbait does not have to require a paddle/spear tail. In the industry their are "hard and soft" swimbaits. Soft swimbaits with paddle/spear tails are the norm but hard swimbaits (segmented body styles) are gaining popularity and are certainly effective and life like!
You can try different ones like me.
when yo said little I though the 1 inch ones. to me 3 inch ones are large. I use the Kalen brand double tale in one inch and two inch. lot of action on a small jig head. 1/32 jig and tail will catch a ton of fish.
I use the baby shad swim baits in natural color- they are fine for catching larger crappie. 2 & 2.5"
I like Charlie Brewer's slider bodies with paddle tail.
