Sardis
Hey guys! I'm new to the forum. But I fish a lot over here in arkansas small lakes for crappie. My question is I am coming over to camp with some of my ms kin folks and wanted to do some crappie fishing on Sardis. Is there anywhere to fish from the bank? Yes I would love to get a guided trip but this time funds are not available for that. My boat isn't big enough to take on Sardis. Any suggestions?

Tough to catch crappie on the big lakes this time of year from the bank. Most are out in deeper water by now, best bet would be the spillway. May try your luck at some cats or bream if your bank fishing. How big is your boat? I see a few 12 & 14 footers out on the big lakes from time to time, as long as the wind ain't bad it's doable, may have to stay kind of close to the ramp :twocents

Take your boat and go to lower lake. There are some crappie to be caught and like Snubbys said get up for some catfish. Should be able to catch plenty there. If more than a sight breeze stay off main lake in small boat.

You can go out from engineers point and catch catfish sometimes. Wind usually not an issue right close to the damn.

There is a spot on the dam where there was some type of repair or something and its almost like a shelf on the dam, if it is not under water you can climb down to it and fish off of it, I think there might even be stairs leading to it from the road that goes across the dam. Would put you in deeper water than most spots on the bank. I like to spider rig around this area from the boat but I think good fish should also be reachable from the dam in this spot.

I like the suggestion about wyatts crossing. Your little boat would do ok back there depending on wind conditions. Bring catfish noodles for the open areas back there we have done very well in the timber. Wyatts has a quiet camp ground and a small store for minners and such last time we were down there.

Bigkyd are you talking about the side of the dam where the water flows out? For crappie or catfish? I like to eat catfish but I hate cleaning them. What kinda jigs do you use? I have a lot of curly tails. Black white 1/16 oz. I have been looking at 18-20 ft war Eagles.

No, this is on the main lake side. I've only fished around it in the fall, I'm not sure if it is still above water at summer pool. I've done well on Crappie in this area spider rigging with minnows, but I would think a curly tail jig should work. With a 16th ounce head on light line with light tackle you should be able to cast it out pretty far and cover a good amount of area fan casting. The crappie tend to stack up around the corners of this "shelf" in the fall, not sure about the summer pattern or even if there is one, it may be under water when the lake gets to summer pool. I was just trying to think of a spot where you could get to some deeper water without a boat.
