Watching this closely! We always do it 2 minutes before weigh in, not good.

Mess with ya dude. i have a set of culling markers that show pound and ounces, dial it to what your fish weighs and it snaps in the jaw of the fish, once you get to seven just start working the smaller fish to another box as you increase your stringer weight. Works very easy and simple. The culling system at Academy is the one that has worked best for us but it only has 6 markers so you need to get 2 sets and share with someone, matter fact I would like to have an extra or 2 so I would get a couple of the extras.
Ok, I'm not what you would call a tournament fisherman. But I did fish one recently that let you weigh 15 fish. I'm also cheap and didn't want to pay what they wanted for 2 or 3 store bought culling systems to get to 15 markers. So I made my own for about 5 or 6 bucks. Mine may take too long for some people but it worked really well for my wife and me. I bought floats and cheap fish stringers then cut the hooks off and tied string on to them and clipped the floats on and numbered them. I also bought a cheap plastic folder (to keep the water off) and printed off a spread sheet that I made and put it in the folder. When we would catch a fish I'd weigh it, tag it, and write the weight down next to the tag number along with the feet of line out and the color of the crankbait to see what pattern was developing. As you can see OC (orange crush) was the best color and about 30 feet of line out. We only caught 13 so we didn't get to cull any but you can see that #6 (9oz) would be the first to go. At weigh in it was also easy to pull our biggest fish #11 (2lb 4oz).Attachment 242217Attachment 242218Sorry when I would rotate the second picture it was too small to read.

? I don't understand the question. What is this culling thing of which you speak. Normally, I just hand my one fish to the guy running the scales and he tells me how much it weighs. Pretty efficient really.

We also use these. You can store 8 fish and their weights on this scale. It totals your fish weight also. We just take the 8th (lightest) fish out when we get to the weigh in. One mistake most guys make when using culling scales is to try and log their fish in order. We grab a number clip and store the fish in whatever number we grab. Time management is critical in a tourney and trying to find the next number in line takes time. We just grab, log and go.

FYI--Your tourney weight will usually be more than the scales show. The reason is that you store your fish one at a time. When you weigh at the tourney, you weigh all of your fish at once. 7 fish in a basket will hold more slime and water therefore weighing a little more than the individual weights.
Thats not a bad thing, heap rather have more at the scales than I thought than less than I thought going in. I use the same scales in the boat and the tags from Academy, pretty good combonation.Quote:
