they should be higher in the summer when you have to put 8 bags of ice
on each tank every
night
Free but I don't use them anymore . Too much trouble :twocents
No need for minnows till October! 1.50 a dozen here but I live where they are raised an shipped all over the U.S.
Wow, thats high. What part of the country are you in? My husband was bitching because they were $1.95 a dz. here.
I used to buy mine direct from Anderson's Minnow Farm in Lonoke Ar. If I went and got them they were fresh, well graded, and on 100% oxygen. They used to be less than $30 bucks for the 6 lb minimum. That was just a little over $4 a pound!
$7 per 1/2 pound near my place, but rarely buy any
Anywhere from 9-13 dollars a lb. I have a place that sells them for about 9-10 bucks for a lb of number sixes. They always seem to give me about a 1/2 lb more also for free. Those kind of places keep me coming back.
Having never fished with minnows I don't even know how many would be in a pound. When I buy from Anderson it's to stock my pond at my house. The bass and catfish try to eat me out of house and home. I add minnows to keep my bream from being hit too hard.

I'm very confident in my ability to catch crappie casting a cork and jig, a slider grub or curly tail, or single pole jigging' (one of my personal favorite ways to fish.) But I'll always have a bucket of minnows on board for when I want to just kick back and troll and enjoy the company of a good friend or observe natures beauty.
Ask some of the National Champions if they ever leave the bank with out fresh, lively minnows on board. :twocents
Them crappie don't get to be 3lbders eating plastic !!!!! I had rather have them and not need them and to need them and not have them !!!!! Kinda like American Express Don't leave home without them !!!
I buy from Mack's Sporting goods in Greenbrier a lot. $10 a pound after tax

Pillows at Paragould has them for just over $6 a pound. It takes me about 2 months to use a pound, so most of mine die of old age or heat exhaustion before getting eaten by a fish.
About 9 bucks a lb at toad suck ones. They dip pretty heavy and minnows are always nice and froggy.
Please don't take my comments as disparaging toward fishing with minnows. I have never used them due to the way I have fished and who I fished with. My uncle was the one I fished with most often, he had a thing about fooling a fish into eating something they shouldn't be. I have never spider rigged or long lined, not that I am opposed to it, just never done it. My little brother won't fish a plastic jig, he is very opposed to it. Shoot, I may just have to try a minner next time I go, I may even try fishing at night with a light. Both would be new for me. How many minnows are in a pound?
Chris
I got 2 dozen at the bait shop at Overcup Saturday. He charged me $6.50! I just about passed out.
I quit going to the bait shop at the south ramp of Overcup, I always bought a 1/2lb, one day it would be 7.50 the next 8 something, sometimes 10. Some days it would look like you couldn't fit another minnow in the bucket and the next looked like a handful. The people at the other landing, the one Junior use to own always have the same price, and you never question whether you got as many as you paid for.

Thanks NIMROD. I wouldn't know a #8 from any other. :yikes
I will have to learn some things if I plan to fish minners. I will say that though I have never had a desire to try, it is a little intriguing to step out of my comfort zone.

The only reason for the minnows is for night fishing under lights. The jig just don't do as good for me. I'm gonna get a little gill net to hang out with the light, and get my own minnows.
My question is Where is here? Grenada Lake or Cherokee Village? About three or four weeks ago my nephew and I were at Grenada. That Gas Station/Bait Shop right there by 330 scenic loop before you head to Grenada Landing was selling them for 14 bucks a pound for any size you wanted. We got some of there small minnows and heck I thought about filleting some of them. I didn't realize them folks down there fish with big shiners like we used to do in Florida for bass. On the back side of Grenada lake just down from the road that goes to Choctaw landing, there is a country store/gas station that was selling minnows for 2 bucks a dozen. Here locally in Jonesboro, they are 2 bucks a dozen plus tax at the station on Hwy 1 towards Harrisburg.
As for fishing with minnows or just jigs, it makes me no never mind which way we fish as long as we are fishing! I was raised single poling with just jigs and my Dad and his fishing buddy wouldn't fish with anything except black and Chartreuse tube jigs. We always did alright, but since I started fishing with some other folks and they used minnows, I kinda got used to it, so like others on here, I don't leave the bank or dock without some minnows in my Engel bait cooler.
