Hot tip part two; todays misadventures
The wife and I put in at Cossar this morning. It was the maiden trip of the season. We go east down past the 9 marker and turn around towards the west for a crank troll.
By the time she gets all 8 rods out, I get my hand held gps spooled up to confirm what I already knew. That with drag buckets at idle the 60 yamaha had us going a perfect 1.8 mph. I look at the gps and it says 1.5. What ? Wipe the old spray sun screen off the face, still 1.5. I'm thinking, no wind, no waves no outside forces that I see are effecting the boat to slow my troll. Maybe something on the boat has changed. It had ! I just didn't know it or what at that time.
We troll on at 1.5 for a few more minutes. I feel something wet on my foot. Without looking down my first thought was I spilled a drink. Problem was I'm not drinking anything. So look down and to my horror I see water coming in thru the floor drain. Insert your own words here, would match mine.
I tell the wife, "we are sinking". I then told her to reel up the two short poles on the bilge lid and take the atwoods off. After this happens we switch places and I look in the bildge. Water almost to the top of the batteries. I tell her to try and get the boat on plane, I'm gonna pull the plug and all this water will be out of here. Well I'm an honest 300 pound guy and between me and all that water evertime I got a good reach at the plug, the motor cavatated and made noises that Don don would swear were bigfeets. After about five trys I tell her, "come to a stop at idle, don't cut the engine". By this time I grabbed another plug for the live well. Don't know what is happening but at this point I ain't leaving any hole unplugged if I can get this water out.
I pull the drain plug and go forward at the same time telling her to hammer the throttle. The boat lurched and started climbing out of the hole. She got on plane and I watched the water being sucked out just like fishcamp lore I heard as a pup. With the water out I figured I could get the plug back in not under power before too much got back in. So plugged both holes and turned my attention to "where is the water coming in from" ?
Turns out that the other day at the carwash when I was doing some cleaning on the old scowl, I blew the hose from the livewell pump to the tank off. Those things leak when hose is unattached. Hey but I can see how much fuel is in my tank now.
I tried the obvious reattaching the hose but that wasn"t happening. I had to plug the hole. I ask the wife to look in a small box that I had setup for slip bobber fishing. Inside the are a couple of balsom wood bobbers please hand me one. I pushed it into the hole for a temporary fix. We stayed dry the rest of the trip. Attachment 241722

high pressure wands knock more than grime off.

If what should be isn't there is a reason. Example 1.5 instead of 1.8 equaled a bildge full of water
Mishap 2 ( small one but painful
The wife has single use eyedrops after her cateract surgery. The ones in question are otc but pretty expensive. She has about half of each unit left so I get the left overs. Today she used it avout noon on thidms hot day and handed me the very small container to finish. About the time I tilt my head back she is flying in a fish. So I lay it down on the black carpet in the full sun. After kicking the fish out the boat I return to the eyedrops. The nanosecond the first drop hit my eyeball I knew I was a big dummy. Amazing how hot things get under the right conditions. It was not soothing !
