I had a member ''Slackline'' make me a deal . He offered me a hand made knife just to test it for him . As you can see it looks great and is a fine piece of art . It also cuts good and appears to hold an edge . Thanks Chris .:biggrin Will give it a trial run through hundreds if not thousands of Crappie and Catfish this summer .:biggrin

Not often do you see folks that still use a real knife to filet with.....I'm one that feels it's the only way to filet.....Nice blade....

Nice looking knife. I see you used it, how did it work?
Cuts fine just a little too big for my taste but will keep using it this summer . May just need to get used to different knife . It sure is a quaility knife .:twocentsQuote:

NIMROD, I really appreciate you testing this knife for me, as I do the fillets. It is my design and I tried to make it user friendly in design. I considered the handle shape and size and blade shape more than than the blade size. There will be a six inch variant of this design in stainless steel in the works.
As for the steel, it is 15n20. Which is the same steel used for the huge band saw blades used in saw mills. It is a domestic steel that is also use by many bladesmiths to create Damascus steel.http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l...sgv6iav6s.jpeg
This is an example of Damascus that I forged using 15n20 and 1084 steels.

The fish cleaning station caught my eye also. Whats the deal on that?
Couple more questions about the knife.
What is the length of the one in the picture? Looks to be 10"-11" blade?
I see your going to offer a 6" blade, when? Cost?
How much flexibility in the blade, say compared to a Rapala of roughly the same length?
I have a 9" and 6" Rapala blades. I like the sizes and I like to support US made products, besides I have a small knife collection. Nothing fancy or extravagant. I prefer Case XX folding and fixed blades for a variety of things. I also have Western Bowie knife I use for camping.
I prefer the Case blades over Buck knives. The Cases blades hold an edge longer and take an edge easier then Buck blades. The Rapala blade falls somewhere in between the Case and Buck.
I fillet most of my fish with a blade. If it's a big basket of fish, I will use the electric fillet knife.
Can you give me idea on blade flexibility, sharpening compared to either Buck or Case knives?
Hanr3, flexibility is about the same a the Rapala. This was a shot I took as I was working on the knife. I wasn't pushing very hard on it.http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l...pswx33fvhd.jpgIt takes an edge as easy as a Case CV blade, easier than their stainless. It holds an edge better due to the Rockwell hardness being higher, more condensed carbides in the steel as well as the edge geometey. The blade is barely over 8" and the overall length is 13".

Nice looking knife, and very nice work. I know another knifemaker in Tennessee, Bob Levine, and he taught me some of the ins and outs of the knife trade. I never knew just how involved making a quality knife could be.
I'm still hoping you will post a pic of your fish cleaning station???
That fish cleaning station is a public facility at Plainview Ar. I don't know much about it. The center of the fish cleaning station has tubes going down into a grinding device, perhaps like a garbage disposal. Around that is a square of cutting boards. There are water sprayers and electric outlets to facilitate cleaning fish with either traditional fixed blades or electric knives. I was reading on the Arkansas forum where shelves have been added to keep things dry, like cameras, bags and such. I will get some picture and possibly more info on it next time I get up there.
