How often do you cast and retrieve vs some form of still fishing/jigging?

Since getting out fished about 150 to 3 by one of our local experts (Fishdoc) I just about always cast, count down, and retrieve
If I am not trolling I am casting and retrieving or vertical jigging covering ground.
Caught most of my fish this year by casting and retrieving
About 80 percent cast and retrieve...cause I enjoy it. Sometimes I long pole and it works good if the fish are in a negative or neutral mood. Now some bodies of water you'll do better with other methods on a year round basis. I need to slow down and relax more than I do...funny thing is when I was younger use to do a lot of bobber and tight line fishing and such...now I'm an old grandpa and I'm throwing my arm off.... what got into me... I can't figure it out????
I throw swimbaits 99% of the time and grubs 1%
The majority of my fish this year have been caught casting tube style jigs. In thinking about it I have caught on under a bobber and the remainder casting. I have never spider rigged and only fished with two rods drifting a few times in my life. Now, next trip I should be vertical jigging. I like single rod single jig fishing. Never caught a crappie on a minnow, no plans to change that anytime soon.
My name is Chris and I am addicted to the thump :cheers2
More often then not I'm jigging over brush on the main lake I fish. There's another lake I go to where slow trolling seems to work much better and occasionally we will long line there as well.I think the way you fish can change depending on the situation.
We usually drift if there is a breeze. If not, we're casting jigs. Occasionally, we vertically jig. You have to be versatile first & foremost. And willing to change with the attitude of the fish. The worst thing you can be is a "one method Pete".
I only single pole jig. Just as soon be golfing if I can't feel the thump :biggrin
My primary method, preferred method, "go to" method from the start ... all other methods are employed only when the cast/retrieve method isn't productive or isn't an efficient presentation.
I cast and retrieve 80-90% of the time and long pole vertical fish tight to cover the remaining time.
When the fish are shallow, 5' or less, or the water fairly clear it seems like casting works better than getting right on top of them, for me anyway.
Casting 90% for me too.

Remember what is says in the Bible:
"Cast thy jig upon the waters ..."
I fish with slip bobbers 90 percent of the time because that is what I like to do. Sometimes this is the best way to catch them and sometimes not. I do cast a jig before leaving a spot to see if it does any better but most of the time it does not. I normally have a tight line over the side of the boat. So fishing 2 slip bobbers and a tight line over the side of the boat keeps me very busy. People think it is just sitting there watching a bobber but it is way more then that. When not in tournaments I will use single pole and just have fun.
I also cast about 105% of the time DB4D....the other 5% is when I am dreaming about going fishing.

Spring time, 80% cast and pull. The rest of the year, vertical or what Crappie Pappy calls "vertical casting".
