Minneapolis bypass
Will be traveling through there on vacation and was wondering if anyone has been through there in the last few years. Heading straight north to Canada. Was wondering if better to use the highway around like 270 in St. Louis, go straight through or WAY around. It has been 43 years

A lot of it depends on timing. Take the bypass if you are through there during the week around morning rush hour (6-9). Otherwise, if you are going later in the day or on the weekend, shoot through 35E and enjoy the north country!!!!
-
When are you heading up that way?
-
July. Use to go with parents when I was a kid. Going to same place we went to 43 yrs ago. Husbands first time. Excited about trip. Have passports, outdoors card and fishing license already. The place we are going is still in the same family. Now grandkids run it. That makes me feel old. Not taking our boat. For an extra $100 we got a boat with cabin. Will be there a week. Been fixing up tackle box just for trip.

35E, 35W they'll both get you up to the nort side of the Twinkle Cities and headed on up to Dulut and straight to HoserLand. Ya, you betcha. Uff da!
Stay out of the rush!!! Best advise from MNDOT - Pick a lane, Get in it, STAY THERE.

We always went the east side but we then took 53 to international falls and crossed there. Have fun.
-
Perch, we're heading up next Saturday. Not going all the way to Canada but I can tell you what the Twin Cities construction/traffic/road conditions are like and if you'll want to avoid what we'll inevitably hit!
-
Ok. Thanks. Will cross border at International Falls.
-
been to and through twin cities a good number of times bout the only way to avoid const would prolly be a fly-over?
-
Thanks not sure when we will go through. Depends if hubby has to work the week before. Will be there from Saturday to Saturday. Suppose to be on vacation shutdown for 2 weeks. but overtime now and first week is in jeopardy. May not get there until sunday.

It's a lot like Dallas if driving between 8 pm and 6 am either way is fine. Between 6 am and 8 pm stop and take a nap till 8 pm.

We go to Ely, Mn every year ( In fact leaving Friday morning for our yearly trip) . Honestly it depends on what time you get there. If it is between 3:30 - 6:30pm it really doesn't matter which way you go. It is not going to be good. But we have been going around the city and it seems to be the best way we have found.

Miller is right. I was at Lac Des Mille Lacs last week. We did the 35E route and it worked out great. Only one snarl where two lanes went down to one headed north. That can't be avoided as it's north of the cities. Avoid that 3:30 - 6:30 time if you can. Saturday return had no hold ups. Came through about 11:00 am. We were fortunate.
