Ouch! Conway is tough on equipment!
Chris
My grandsons have proven to me that nothing is unbreakable!
Trying out the lifetime warrenty ? :biggrin
Never seen one do that under the power of the trolling motor , have seen some do that under the power of the outboard .
What happened? Yikes
After having raised 2 boys, never say something is unbreakable.....
I have snapped 3 of them and bent a few motor guide shafts. The composite minn Kota shafts are more durable but not unbreakable. Their warr. Is good though. Go see my buddy Gary Hubble at nife Marine!
Miss Lake Conway wakes up each morning saying to herself, which trolling motor, lower unit, Hull, will I destroy today? If you get through your day of fishing without her taking so much as a skuff on your boat by the end of the day, consider yourself a lucky man. Very Very slow is the way to go on Lake Conway. Get in a Hurry.... and she will teach you what B.O.A.T. really stands for. Bail Out Another Thousand$$$. She can be very cruel to those who venture out on her horizon.
They'll fix it for free. Good customer service.
Hey, the Titanic wouldn't sink either. [emoji4]
I have busted so many of those Gary Hubble keeps them in stock for me. When I call he asks do you want beaing kits to go with the shafts. They are super easy to replaced after you have done as many as I have. I have replaced probably 15+ shafts since the first unbreakable, breakable shaft came out on Minn Kota trolling Motors.
This was one of those no good deed goes unpunished things. Guy had launched his boat on the other side of the lake and his knot came untied. He finally got my attention and I was just going to troll across instead of going back up to the boat trail to help him. Think I speed set on 5 1/2 and I believe the last time I looked at remote I was going 2.1 mph. When I hit the stump it sounded bad it the trip breaker for a second or so. By the time the breaker reset I had done bounced off the stump and everything seem to be working again. But when got to boat ramp to pick up the guy who boat had when on a walk about I couldn't get my my shaft to slide threw steering motor. After taking care of the run away boat I done a better inspection of damage. Not only did it break the shaft bent the pivot pin that goings threw the lower steer motor housing and broke one side of the lower steer motor housing itself. By the way the is a minn Kota 48" v2 power drive 68lb trust pontoon model with ipilot that I just installed but it mounted on the minn Kota hdpe mounts so it can take it off my pontoon. When trashed it was mounted on my 16' alumacraft. So I call min Kota to see if they would just me the parts to fix it they said they would sent the shaft and pin but I would have to take certified minn Kota repaired center to even possibly cover steer motor housing under warranty. So by now I'm p/o and ready to just buy another steering motor house instead of a being without a trolling motor for a month or more waiting warranty work. Told them that I am a certified crown fork truck mechanic and have been for almost 20 years and that trolling motor are pretty simple in comparison but didn't seem to impress them much. I went ahead and took the number for the closest "certified minn Kota repair shop" mostly just called out of curiosity on just how long it would be out for repair. I got Gary at nife marine and he said he would probably have it done a week or so. Super nice guy by the way so I took I to him and I guess we will see if they warranty it all or not. All I can stay if it done all that damage with just a 16' foot boat behind it hate to see what happen if I hit something solid with I on my 24' pontoon. [emoji20]

Wow, I've hit a many a stump with mine usually going about 1.5 mph with my 18' glass boat (formerly a bass boat) I've been amazed something hasn't broken yet. Maybe it's because I'm usually in deeper water and the stump gives a little more than a shallow stump.
I have found that some Pontoon owners here on Lake Conway, learn that they make great docks after taking them out on Lake Conway a few times. Just Saying.
Broke mine a few weeks ago. Didn't have details on the warranty deal, and nowhere close to do the work, so I found one online for $16-18 plus a little shipping. Ordered Sunday, got it Wednesday, replaced it myself Thursday, ready to fish! This was on a Maxxum 70. Easy to do.
That's a big lick, I see it happen some, when running with the big motor & troll motor down. Looks like a rock hit. I am sorry for you.
anyone foolish enough to run a trolling motor thru the stump mines on Conway at 2.0 mph deserves a broken shaft. Just saying nonono
