So I wanted to know this ... you think the Crappie have all moved deep by now? Where I fish the water is only 5ft off a Pier. Think I just need to hang up my poles?

If that is the only area you are going to fish, then yes. I would suggest scouting out an area in deeper water, say around bridge pilings using a slip float.
Well, no boat so I guess that's it for me. Snakes are out and I'm not bank fishing around a river or lake that is grown up. I'm trying to find a place that has deep water with a Pier or something like that. I gave up trying to meet someone for a boat ride. I would rent a boat at Lake Purdy, but I don't want to go alone.
Try this, buy a lake map for the lake you wish to fish and look for areas accessible from shore that has a drop off, etc. Next, look at the area using Google Earth. This will confirm or deny the accessibility, at least to some extent. You will also be able, in many cases, to find laydowns and other cover, comparing that to the depth on your "hard copy" map. If shallow water leads to a dropoff out of casting range, get a pair of waders, or just wade. Plenty of fish are caught without a boat. Boat fishermen cast to the bank, and bank fishermen cast to the area the boat sits in the water!
Well off the first Pier, they say its a drop off to 9 ft and a channel that runs through there. I may still go. I just don't like going anymore because all the kids come and jump in the lake and I'm pretty sure it scares the fish off for a few days. I'll just keep looking for stocked ponds. Thanks.
Good luck to ya! I'm in TN, but I occasionally have the back seat open!
Wish folks in Alabama were as nice haha. Thanks for the helpful tips too. I was trying to find a lake map, but not sure where to look.
Not sure about your area, but I have found my lake maps at Walmart. You can get them online, but I have found they are more expensive. But only by a few dollars.
Thanks. I'm just going to go rent a boat out at Lake Purdy and try that. At Lay Lake there is only 3 piers over looking a slough and a bridge that you have to climb down a hill through woods to get to and I'm not doing that. But thanks!
I don't know your area but back when I didn't have a boat, and did not want to play with the snakes on the bank I would fish below our water dams. They all have a concrete walkway, deep water and when the turbines are on we catch crappie at all times of the year. The dams that I fished I would just have to gear up to a little heavier line so as to be able to hall the crappie up the 20 ft wall to the basket.
There's plenty of crappie in lake purdy I would rent a boat there and give it a try . If you need a partner to fish with I may be able to go with you depends on work schedule.

"All" is a word seldom used in fish patterns . Example being ,on Enid I have seen crappie caught in large numbers during the summertime in 3 ft. of water and air temperature was 90 plus .If you do not find them where they are predicted to be ,think outside the box . On Enid when things get tough I find fish very shallow in deep water . Since I prefer not to fish with line that short it usually is my last resort . We as fishermen tend to repeat the process of eliminating water in our own world . After going with guides like "Felay" (on Sardis) and "Biguns" (on Bay springs) I took home a lot besides a limit of fish . Never think hiring a guide or tagging along with a good fisherman is a waste of money .
Hey eagle. Good morning. Yeah I been fishing for a while. I know a ton. My only issue is no boat. I've asked for months now to tag along with someone but no one is willing. I don't have $250 for a guide and then that is not a guarantee to catch fish. That's a lot of $. I fish Lay Lake mostly because its 4 miles down the road. But you have to go at sunrise because anythime after lunch and you got kids jumping in the water all around you. You can't fish in the good spots from the bank due to high grass and snakes. I'm hoping to get myself a jon boat in Feb and I'll be good to go. And Lay Lake is really a BASS lake and the boaters tell me they really aren't catching any even by spider rigging. ALL of my success out there has been at sunrise off live minnows. I purchased some of those gulp alive minnows and not one bite in 3 days.
I'm headed to my second job so I'll check back later. Have a blessed day.
something you might try is night fishing. I fish a lake in Ohio that when the hot weather hits I fish close to a marina that lights up a small area and at night fishing shallow water around docks can be good. Large crappie will come shallow at night to feed.
I realize this is an old post but go to Navionics | The Leader in Electronics Charts | Navionics and click on the web app link at the top of the page. You may find your lake there by zooming in on your area.
Keep on :fish
