The older I get the more I have noticed my legs aching from standing on trolling motor all day. Today I got up the nerve to cut a hole in a perfectly good aluminum deck to install a trolling motor tray. I was a little nervous because I had to cut a brace. But after the install I'm happy with the outcome.

The older I get I worry about trip hazards. I don't see the reason to do that ( just me ). Why would this help moving around on the deck?:scratchhead
Dawgg, I think the biggest think is the pedal is close to deck level so you aren't as of balance as the standard on deck norm. I always felt un comfortable using the on deck foot pedal
Well okay, I think it would put one foot farther down and strain the hip or calf muscle more with it. But I never used my foot pedal since I got the I pilot. My last trolling motor had a toggle switch on a wire to the auto pilot. Didn't have the foot pedal. It was better than a foot pedal. Just like the remote to the I pilot. Like I said it's just me, less to worry about. :highfive
Ideally, with this tray, it should be putting BOTH feet on the same plane. By doing this I believe it is supposed to reduce fatique from standing on one foot all day allowing you to distribute more weight onto the footpetal. Either way, I can still see a serious tripping hazard with that foot petal on the front deck (I guess 'm just too used to the remote on my tm).
I'm still a bass fisherman most of the year. I spend a lot of time standing and casting for hours at the time. The 70 lb thrust trolling motor can throw you off balance if it's windy and you happen to touch the button while it's turned sideways. With both feet now roughly the same level it reduces the chance you are thrown off balance. Plus I don't spend 8 hours with one foot 6 inches higher than the other. I don't see the trip hazard you guys are seeing. The trolling motor isn't as high now. I tried it out this evening and liked it. Caught one nice slab and a bunch of dinks. I threw em back.

Great job. I actually wanted to do that and my salesman talked me out of it when I ordered. I hope you post how you like it after a few times. I might do that myself since I have my pedal screwed to one spot. What did you do about the brace. I would have to cut one also.
