My taste buds are not that refined. When it comes to fish...I am like a back alley wino. 7 dollar bottle of grocery store wine or 100 dollar bottle of the finest French cabernet....in the end I am gonna polish it off.
I like the white better than the black, does that make me a racist? : )
I prefer wintertime crappie from cold water over any others. The rest are awful good though.
Bring me your crappie fillets and I will judge them....
had some just last night w some fried morels to go with it. pretty darn good
Paired with the right beer, they're all good!
Colder the weather the better the taste to me. It's all good though!:highfive
I would rather eat the 9 to 10" size over the bigger sizes.
Batter to meat ratio is best.
With Andys of course.
I like the winter time crappie better. But same as everyone else they all good.
This is really the only thing I can tell a difference in as well. Catching those 12"+ slabs is more fun, but I like how the fillets off the smaller fish fry up a little bit crispier. If all I can catch are big ones though, I'll still eat them with out complaining too much. :biggrin
Love them all, but my favorite is whole fried 11/12".
Funny this topic came up because I was about to post a report on Little Dixie Lake and how small the crappie were but they were soooooo good! I went ahead and cleaned a dozen "maybe" 8 inchers and cooked em up with egg batter, and my special breading and am smiling as I type~!!
I think the small ones are better but the combo of fresh and breading to meat ration does it right.
Never met a crappie I didn't like.
Crappie are like sex, even the worse I've had was pretty darn good.
