Just finished up my first jig using craft fur. Not sure what I think tying with it. Think natural fur is more manageable. What's the concensus on how much the fish like or prefer one over the other?

I don't know how much difference there is, but both work fine. I do know a guide here that only used craft fur and ties it full length! Jig looks good!

Be more managable if you cut the collars off your jigs. When you cut the hair off use a comb and comb the underfur out before you tie it in. It's very manageable once you get used to tying with it. One little tool you can make that will help blend colors and straighten it out is an ordinary popsicle stick with some velcro on it

I tie just as many natural hair jigs as craft fur jigs, you can even mix the two. I have some from craft stores Darice Brand a bunch of the Hairline and my favorite is Targus craft fur which is really hard to find.
Fatman, thank you for the popsicle and collar ideas. Was using a dog brush too help with the underfur. The popsicles would be easier.
Gone down this road because I've got a huge bag of Targus from a purchase I made years back and poured 10 dozen to experiment with.

There are some issues with what it's actually called crafthair or fur? Fur I don't like select craft hair I love. Been tying with it since 08. 3 diffrent lengths, and ties wonderfully as well as catches all kinds of fish especially crappie! Great info out there the bass. Guys love it in the winter
That's why I refered to it the way I did yesterday. I have the hair and the fur in this huge container.

Yes that is another issue with the companies that sell it I'm not sure they do either ? What ever the name on the package it's the one with 3 different lengths of hair that can be shucked and trimmed before setting it on the jig. That's the one I prefer hairline calls it select craft hair. I think. Wapsi calls it fur same stuff I think
By full length I just meaning that he doesn't cut it short to have a shorter tail, he uses all of it on his jigs. He also uses small hooks on a 1/8 Oz head. However he has his own lodge so he must be doing some thing right. Some guys don't want a long tail at all and think it will get a lot of short strikes. I just don't believe you get a lot of crappie bites that are short like Blue Gills bites are.

I tried to cut some zonker strips from craft hair and it were not pretty!!!!!!!!LOL After all the rabbit and squirrel I've cut need to check the blades!!
since craft hair is mentioned another option for tying with it is making a crosscut strip, hairline hair works best because the backing will stretch cut a 1/4 to 3/8 wide strip crosswide then pull the two ends to make a long strand and palmer it on rich mc
