Wait!
Tuesday looks like a great day!
If I were you, I'd wait till the Columbiana are has 3 days of 70F(+) temps and no threats of incoming fronts (that bring gale force winds and colder temps). Just my opinion and I may be waiting for mid-July to get the conditions I would like to see.
Thanks guys. I was going to go after work Tuesday from 5pm till dark.
Guess I'll stay home tomorrow. I was gonna go round 2pm. Supposed to be low 70s.
Always a good day to fish, not always a good day to catch. I'd go fishing!
I agree with DB, you cant catch them sitting on the couch! I'm gonna give Wedowee a shot today myself.
Always go if you can and figure out how to catch fish in different conditions. If nothing else, try some new stuff you haven't tried before and enjoy the day out.
go fishing dude, make it about being on the water, enjoying the outdoors, and quit worrying if you might catch anything or not. who wants to clean em anyway:highfive
lol. Thank guys for the encouragement. I think I'm done fishing for a while unless I find a stocked crappie pond or something. I sat out there from 12pm-8pm and not one single bite using live minnows and jigging with various jigs. People in boats were catching them though. I think I just need to find someone with a boat who can be friendly enough to let me tag along. I've offered to pay ... but I would like to talk on the phone before meeting. I'm not just going to meet up without chatting first. Well, have a great Sunday guys and thanks again.
I'm going to try to go after work this evening from 5pm-dark. If I don't catch anything then I think I'm going to try to just find a stocked pond somewhere. Getting tired of spending $20 and not catching anything from that Pier. The water according to the fishfinder is only 4-5 ft deep, so I'm hoping they'll move into shallows....:pray
Attachment 235913 I went from 5pm-7:30pm and this is what I got off minnows from the Pier. Man, this slab fought HARD! I thought it was a big BASS HAHA
I had to leave because the park closes at dark. But the bite was on jack!
That's enough for a mess if you save the backbones :highfive
Thank you, Sir! I filleted them and put them in a freezer bag with water and froze them. About two months ago I bagged 18 and stuck them in the freezer with water. I hope they're still good to eat. :dono
But all in all I had a great time. I said, "Lord, Father, please let my cork go down. I been good today." All of the sudden ... BAM-BAM-BAM! Then the Sheriff shows up telling me park is about to close.
But I had fun! I saw those guys in a boat and said ya know, if I keep on nagging people at C.Com I might just get a ride one of these days HAHA
But thanks again. Have a great day! Fun times :fish
Having fun and being thankfull is what it's all about. Being able to go is the biggest blessing.Them fish are still good u got put up too. Heck, I bet if u offer to cook them up and give them away at that pier u will have guys not only let u in their boat, but they will let u drive that thing all around as long as they got that golden cornbread crusted fillet. Lol. Just my idea for u on a swap meet.
This day in time they'll think I poisoned 'em haha you know how people are now a days. I fried up 10 and brung them to work (I work with a few fisherman w/no boats ... go figure haha) and told them they were Crappie .... not one person took them. I was so let down. But yes, it was a true blessing to get to go. I get off work at 3pm, get home around 4:30pm (1.5 hour drive) then if I want to go and have some extra cash on me, I can be at that Pier by 5pm no problem. Maybe someday I can find someone that would maybe pick me up off that Pier and we can go night fishing .... I'd offer $50, but I have to have advance notice of the trip. I know it cost a lot to fill up the truck and boat. But I don't mind chipping in! As long as they can put me on some fish! haha
Have a good one
I have found that if I add a little salt to the water in a Ziploc and then push all the air out of the bag, the fillets will keep as long as they stay frozen. I found some in the bottom of the freezer that were three years old and they tasted great!
Adding water is essential, but the real trick is getting the air out completely. With no air in the bag, the fillets will not get freezer burnt and the little bit of salt allows for a harder freeze, therefore they will last forever.
Thanks! I'll give it that a try next time. Not sure how much more fishing I can do though, because it's about to get hot and they'll move into deeper water from what I am reading. I work two jobs so my fishing time just dropped :(
That's why I am trying to get with someone who has a boat in my area.
Don't forget no insurance, license to drive, tag to renew, boat to register, boat in the way in the driveway or garage and thousand dollar repairs. You can launch it anywhere and I catch Crappie in three foot deep water year round. My current kayak I bought used for 500 dollars.
Yes mamba get you a yak. Don't go fancy. Just 1 off Craigslist that is a sit in. Everyone is trading up for sit on top kayaks. And I would definitely come down if I had a boat. Lol. I'm in a kayak as well. Still got TONS to learn about the fish where im at but man it really has put me in the exact spots I needed to be in. I started simple with 2 poles. A small 5-1/2ft pole for casting and an 8ft pole for jigging. I haven't started catching limits where I'm at yet but I'm steadily increasing numbers since i got off the banks. Enuff for a fish fry once a week. My wife never has had a taste for fish but 1 bite of hot crappie and she let's me go fishing 2-3 times a week since. Lol. My 18 month old tears it up too. So all that being said it makes it all that much more rewarding. None of it possible without my little 10ft kayak. Best investment I've ever made for a hobby. I'm almost as hooked on pretty days in my yak as I am fishing in it.......I did say almost though. Lol. Goodluck and stay on them fish. The more u go the more u learn.
Well I may give that a try in the future but I've never been in one. I'm a boat kind of guy.
I store my fish in Ziploc containers. I fill with water and then run a butter knife around the edge to get all the air out. A year later they taste like they were just caught. I also write what's in the container and the date caught in sharpie on the lid. The container can be used several times and stack easy in the freezer. I use the small size and thaw one or more based on how many people I'm cooking for.
But its ok guys. I understand its crazy driving 2 hours to fish with someone you don't know. I guess I'm just oldschool where people weren't so dangerous to meet up with and fish. I was just hoping to meet someone close to me to maybe gain a fishing buddy. I'm not really into the kayak idea. Too afraid of running into a gator or flipping. But I'll look into it. I like the ones I saw with the pedals. I just grew up in a bass boat trolling for crappies and was hoping to maybe someday try that again. Next year when I get my taxes done, I'll look into finding me a nice jon boat and a trailer and just go from there.
I totally agree but don't tell everyone pick up a used yak and get off the bank had mine a couple of weeks and have really enjoyed it.
Lol...I might try one next year. I wanted something I could take a partner on or my kids though ya know. I like to have a partner. Good luck learning the yak!
And thanks for the storing tips. I have 18 fish in that bag so when I thaw them out I want to have kids here too.
Mamba 334 this is my first yak but I bought my kids kayaks at around 8 years old and even younger. So sounds like you need more than one. I had my boys out in canoes at 5.
No Sir, my girls aren't going to want to do that. I am just now getting them into fishing, but it's hard to get a 10 year-old into fishing if the bite is not happening ya know. I don't want to ruin fishing for them, so I try to find places that are stocked for when I have them with me.
Well, my boss let me take tomorrow off, so I'm going to try to beat the rain that's moving in. I'll be at the Pier by 6AM!! Rain is supposed to move in by 12PM. Wish me luck!!! :fish :pray :highfive
Columbaina, AL area. The weather looks good for in the morning.
