Small dose of this sux

Kyle (Gottabe) has been feeling poorly lately. Threw up a few times, poor energy, and in the last week has been complaining he was thirsty a lot and going to the bathroom a lot. Finally, we noticed he had been loosing weight. Finally, it clicked with us and we had the I laws bring their meter to check his sugar. It registered out of range. ER in Grenada showed 765 sugar.l and severe dehydration. Ambulance ride to Jackson UMC while pushing fluids had it down to 365.

The diagnosed him with Type 1 diabetes. We have been through all the education stuff now and should get released this afternoon. Basically, he will have to test his sugar at least 3 times a day and will take insulin at least 4 times a day. Eventually we will move to a pump but for now are using a pen injector.

Life altering, but not life ending. Basically he has no restrictions on diet or activity other than being tied to testing and insulin according to what he eats.

Biggest problem we have right now is getting some weight back on him. He dropped to 95 pounds is just over a week before we realized it. He has been about 115 which was already thin as a rail.

Prayers sent!!! It's a good thing you all caught it in time. Like you said, life altering but not life ending. A lot of people live full productive lives with diabetes.

Glad you got it diagnosed. It will life-altering for all of you, but you'll learn to manage it in short order. Hurts when kids or grandkids have problems.

Got a Nephew in Mo. that is a DR. He has the same thing but has the pump. Says its the best thin he has ever done.

One of my sisters was diagnosed at 25. Been on the pump a while. She says she wished she had that option then. You are right.. Just altering but not changing much. Fantastic y'all thought to check his sugar. Prayers for your family. It's going to be just fine now and he won't be wondering why he doesn't feel good.

Prayers sent! Diabetes is life altering. Get in touch with a nutritionist who is a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) and
get a plan. Diet is very important. You cannot use insulin to offset a bad diet. It's a difficult road to travel, but not
impossible to have a close to normal lifestyle. With your help and guidance, I'm sure your son will live a long and

Thanks for the thoughts and prayer. We made it home Tuesday night and his sugar was back in normal range for the first time this AM. They are easing into his dosage so as to not over do it from the start. We will be moving to the pump after they get everything regulated, but holy minnows with niblets!!! They range from $5-$8k! I'll have to look into it further and make sure it comes with side imaging, down imaging, 360 imaging and built in super duper maps in that price range. Looks like I'll be buying discounted skinny minnows from now on. :)

Glad he is doing better....Don't worry about the $5-8k.......You have saved way more than that bumming free lunches. But seriously, I hope he continues to do well. Continued prayers

Hang in there and trust in the Lord. I have a 30 or so year old relative that was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes as a youngster. He took it in stride and with good maintenance is living a normal life.

My wife told me that one of her students had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Did not realize till now that he was yours. Prayers lifted up. Tell him I know how he feels. I was diagnosed with type 2 about 6 months ago. Sugar didn't get as high as his, though.
