I have been using disgorgers for years. They are much better than hemostats or pliers for unhooking fish. This video is an excellent demo on how to use one.

I've used the larger bulb ended disgorgers on larger fish with OK results.I switched to hemostates for larger fish, but they are limited to the size of the fish. Thanks for the video,I need to find the smaller style for pannies
I make them from bic ink pens . :biggrin
I need something
These were different than the last ones I ordered. I didn't want to post the link until I had a chance to see them.
They work great and are easy to make
I know this is an old post but I found it when I did a search on disgorgers. Does this type of disgorger work well with small jigs also. I see it works great for bare hooks. I have some pretty cool dehookers for flyfishing but they are too small to work in 1/64 - 1/16 oz jigs. Thanks.

I've never tried it with small jigs. I rarely have deep-hooking issues with even the tiniest jigs (1/80 - 1/100.)
I think they would still work on small jigs, though.
Another thing to consider is mashing the barb down. It's much easier to remove the hook, and you'll still land 99% of your fish. Lefty Kreh (famous fly fisherman) once did a demo on barbless hooks. He hooked a bass on a barbless fly, laid his rod down for about a minute, then picked up the rod again and landed the fish.
Thanks. I hear ya on the mashing the barbs. To me it is a confidence thing. I need to bite the bullet and start crimping barbs to build the confidence. I’ll probably order some of the disgorgers to see how they work. They look better than the red bulbous one I already have. It is too big for the smaller fish.

most shore lines have all the hook disgorgers a person could ever want …..just saying
but to be sure on a bluegill and small mouthed fish a disgorger is often whats needed to get your hook back
