Holy crackamolie Batman, Flycaster's BANANA Tree lives!

In the Fall, Flycaster gave me two Banana trees. One did fine, and started growing right a way. The other did not. It did nothing for months, then all the sudden there was a lump on it, kinda in the middle of it, I pried it open just a little. And this is what appeared two days later! wow these things are resilient. Now I got two live naner trees. Can't wait for nanner puddin'. lol

From what I understand it takes 2 consecutive years with no frost to produce fruit. Have never managed to get fruit on any of my banana plants over the years. Neighbors have but I have not. But like banana plants even if I dont get fruit. Hate all palms thougb.

With all of the "cold" winters here, I have been having an abundance of fruit every year.
My son who lives in Deland, Fl also has banana plants and we both have fruit start to form in the early winter and they continue to grow the fruit.

Mine froze back again this year. Cant seem to get em big enough to survive maybe. Dont know, but I like em anyway.

I've never had any trees, but Dad used to have a friend that did and brought him the real small ones, and he loved em.

Did the little palm nuggets ever give you anything? I have 2 that I have planted and 2 more that are coming on. Hush Huntinslabs, I like my Sago Palms.

The palms are still in same pot but not doing anything. I shoulda planted them, wifey does not have a green thumb at all. Dono what happened to them. I'm thinking too much water. She shoulda just stuck them in the ground.

Not all of the ones I brought home have prospered either but the recent rains (maybe) have brought up 3 more. These are tiny too, golf ball size. The epsom salts the wife bought will go on this week and I brought home a couple more about softball size today, big hopes they survive. Enjoy your Nanners. Just stick the Sago's in the ground somewhere out of the way and don't be surprised if they come up one day.

The numbers on the fruit did not grow like that, we just number them to keep tract of the quantity in each harvest.:Rofl


5 pineapple plants with small fruit developing, here in central Florida. Have a total of 29 such plants around the yard.

Oh I dont doubt ya John. Just cant get mine to survive a frost. But mine are small and freeze back every year. Moms neighbor gets piles of em too. I just cant.

I just planted 2 Nanas I got a Lowes and also 2 from CA. ALL are growing now. I did some reading and this is what I found out. First know they like full sun. They are also heavy feeders so amend the soil you plant them in with cow manure and mulch and give them some 10-10-10 or other fert. once in awhile. Fruit come on second yrs growth. Don't cut them down if they freeze. Just let the ugly thing alone. You can also try to protect it from the freezing temps if you like. Just don't cut off the dead leaves or stem. They are just ugly not dead. They should come back once the weather warms again. After they flower or give fruit then you can cut them down to the ground because they only do it once. Then you let the pups grow for 2 yrs. Also you can use their own leaves and stems as mulch. They like Mulch around the base and keep them watered. If you're lucky you will get some fruit. Oh by the way. I have not had a second year here in Florida yet so haha I am waiting too. If I don't get any bananas I am still alright cause my wife uses the leaves for cooking and even the flower. I should have some pups in a few years to share should anyone want to give it a go.
