sac-au-lait fishing for bass

Well, I don't know what else to call it. I told Linda that next trip we are going bass fishing and then maybe we will catch some sacs. We fished the Grove and I was using black and white jig with a Crappie Psychic trailer. Water was back down to 59 degrees from the 69 degree level of our last trip. To much rain and water is out of the banks. The marsh is flooded and I think think the fish followed the water into the marsh.

Nice catch. I love catching them on an 8wt jigging pole. I don't keep them anymore. I don't like the way they taste.

The smaller ones are very tasty, up to about 2 pounds. Although I get frowned at by bass purist for keeping them, I don't go fishing just to turn them loose again. With all those bass fishermen turning them loose the population just gets thicker so I figure it my duty to help keep the population down so more of them will grow bigger : ) for the purist that is.

Good eye Scott, that fish had the center of it tail gone, maybe a birth defect or an injury earlier in life. Either way it sure didn't stop him from putting of a great fight. I was talking to my son in California when it hit and he said OK land him and I'll hang up. I told him to hold on for a minute and he got to listen to it live in a blow by blow contest as I netted him. I then shot him a picture of it and told him to call more often while I'm fishing.

When I was a young teenager my Paw Paw and me would load the stringer with yearling "green trout" and never had a second thought. That was my grandmother's favorite fish. My future wife at that time ate fried fish for noon meal at their house many days.

I agree Pawpaw! I work with some people that get mad if I keep bass but I figure it's my boat, tackle and time and I should keep what I went after! Now if it is a really nice fish (over 4 lbs)and has eggs, I will usually take a picture and throw it back. But like you said, the ones under 2 lbs are very good to eat. I fed Angie 2 of them last night for supper! Thanks for the report.

I do that a lot ......Yearling bass are great to cook whole and taste great

Had much luck with the trailers for crappie? I bought some last fall and more made by OCR in Lafayette. Had good luck with the OCR ones.

I can't really say if the trailers work better for crappie or not as I haven't caught any with them yet, but neither have I caught any without them.
