Artificial Fish Attractors??

I think it is great that folks build and put out fish attractors. Everyone has a different approach and different ways of doing things. I was looking at the picture of the fish attractor that Lawnmowermand43 built. Pretty ingenuous for sure. I am new on the forum and have a lot to learn about this approach to fishing. I have known about folks sinking cedar trees for years. I am only asking a question here and in no way am I criticizing what other fisherman do. I have read articles about folks filling 5 gallon plastic buckets with concrete to sink bamboo and using PVC for fish structures and dropping them in lakes. Is that not litter? How do you get around that? Do they remove the plastic bucket before they drop them in the lake?

I think of it as habitat improvement not litter , besides who's gonna see it anyway , to me shore line trash and unsightly garbage left scattered in campgrounds is litter,it's also not harmful to the ecosystem and can only help the fisheries, litter ? I don't think so !!!! Just my opinion

I compare it to when they sink ships off the coastline to act as artificial reefs.

With all the boat traffic on our lakes these day's.We believe with adding the structure to our lakes."older lakes losing structure" these artificial reefs are helping with erosion form boat traffic especially in our creek's and narrows places in our lake plus add's hiding places from."Hybriid striper"Striper's" ect for our game fish to spawn especially when the Corp draw's down the lake's for repairs during spawning season.Our 2 cent's. On our home lakes every creek has trees eroding into the lake from heavy rain's boat traffic ect.

I build brush piles , pallet beds , pvc , bamboo beds , bucket stake beds , and ect . Without cover many of our lakes would be mostly barren mud bowls .

A person needs to sink the nastiest, gnarliest, cedar or oak he can find. This slows down the trollers. I try to add a little pvc or hardwood to my bamboo buckets for longevity. However, I have sonar pics of bamboo sunk several years ago and it is still there. There is a spot or 2 where people have thrown tires in. I'm not big on that idea.

We discourage tires and forbid metal (boating hazard on low water). As a matter of fact, we removed hundreds of tires on Overcup and Harris Brake during the last drawdown. This was once encouraged by biologists years ago but we found out (years ago) that tires can leach bad chemicals into the water. Natural materials, plastics, pcv, are fine as along as they are not placed in areas that cause boating hazards. Natural materials seem to attract more fish but artificial last longer. As long as you aren't just sinking junk and calling habitat, you are fine. Also make sure that whatever you are sinking is securely anchored. The above rules apply to AGFC lakes. Consult your local Corps office for their dos and donts.

I always try and plan a good route to keep any structure I add away from areas where skiers and PWC

I would really appreciate all the gps coordinates of sunken brushpiles on lake Conway, so I can avoid them when I'm riding around on my jet ski.

Guess you found some of mine .:Rofl
