Different body of water today but same result probably caught about 60 and Musta had 35 to 40 small throwbacks. Gave the fish to a nice lady fishing on the bank she was so happy she hugged my neck. Said she was visiting her family from New Jersey. Made her smile it made me smile

I actually do a good bit of fishing in don't keep a whole lot of fish because nobody in my family likes it but me and as big as I am I don't need to eat it all the time anyway. It was good to know that I made someone happy

We never keep them unless we are cooking that day. But we keep and give some to people who love crappie but just can't go anymore. It feels awful good to see that big smile for a few fish. They never want more than 5 but it sure makes their day. Great job!
I give more away than I keep..people love fresh fish and it's a great alternative to store bought food with all of this crap they put in the food nowadays..Good work!!

My fishing buddie wants to keep anything over 8" but I've finally got him to start throwing them back. Unless it's 11 or so inches with him in the boat, it goes back. On my own, I throw back anything under 12"
DEPENDS ON HOW THE FISH ARE BITING . I HAVE A LIST AROUND HERE WHEN I CATCH FISH MOST OF THEM FIND A HOME ELSE WHERE . BUT I DO EAT MY SHARE AND I HAVE 10 GRANDCHILDREN . LOTS OF FISH TO FEED THAT BUNCH .
Yeah, with no length limit, I see guys all the time keeping every fish they catch even 6-7" and under. Is not illegal and I had a game warden tell me that it does the lake good to cull some small fish but I just hate fooling with them on the fillet table. 10" is usually the lowest I'll go. This time of year I usually keep around 11"-12" or better.
Funny you say that. I love a filet from a 12 in fish. Not too thick in the middle and cooks perfectly. Could care less about a 2lb crappie. They are too thick and I just never cook them right without burning the edges
I love catching big fish but the 10"-12" fish are the best filet's but my dad always keeps 8-10 smalls to fry whole....i like them too. But we never keep many small ones. As a matter of fact, during the spawn I will always throw back a monster female that has not spit out her eggs yet.
Yeah, I usually have to take the big fillets and split them down the middle. I know what you mean about them being tough to cook right. The 11"-14"ers do teem to fry up the best. I was asking a fellow about the small fish he was keeping and he said he fries them whole. Said a lot of older fellers grew up eating them that way. To each his own as long as it's legal.
I stuck a bone in the top of my mouth when I was a kid so I would rather have filets. But I have a guy that takes all of my backbones after cleaning. He fries them just like that and loves it. Like you said...to each his own.
I grew up eating only whole fish when we could get some. My folks could not stand the waste of meat from filets. Learned how to mush the fish with fingers and mouth to check for bones
I kept a few small ones a couple trips ago to fry whole. To much trouble when I can filet them in half the time and just pick them up n eat. No bones LOL We bake or make crappie cakes 90% of the time so I just like the 12" or better fish. That 2 1/2 pounder I got the other day is destined for a little S & P, lemon juice and an oven at 350 LOL
I need to quit frying fish. Or at least bake them half the time. A lot healthier that way.

Eat em both ways, but like em whole much better. Always make one or two trips to the rez just to get some pan sized fish.
Gonna try to broil this weekend. There just isn't another fish that tastes as good as crappie do to me. Specked trout come close , but not quite there.
