Any of you ever change out the trim switch in the throttle lever? When Drew and I went the other day my trim decided it wanted to do it's own thing and pretty sure out of the three trim switches it's the one in the throttle.

Nobody
Mine is out on my throttle too!! Haven't felt like digging into it yet!
Move it to the steering wheel while your at it.
😀 had to get the spiders off
Not up on that merc hand control but would think you would have a couple of recessed screws under the handle. Remove those and top part of handle should come off to access the switch.
Can't find anything I can actually copy a link to but it looks like the leaver is a 3 part setup. Front back and handle with switch sits on top. Couple of screws holding top on and a couple holding outside piece to inside piece. Switch appears to have a harness with a plug that is about 4 to 6 inches long attached to it.
I had the same thing happen to mine. The service manager at the Marina I bought it from told me to spray them all with WD40 and work them up and down a few times, has been fine ever since.
That's what the guy in the video was saying after he had disassembled the handle. Corrosion build up some where in there keeps it from sending juice to the trim motor.Might give it a try first Mike. Maybe a spray made for electronics or what Bassin53 said!Surely can't hurt and may be just the ticket!
Well just took a look at it. 1, no screws 2. 1/3 of the handlemis plastic (top part) and it attaches somehow to the rest which is metal 3. Can't see how to take tge handle off of the whole box. There's got to be an easy solution. Wd40 won't fix mine i don't think ---it's shot,
Why don't you take a couple of pictures and show us what you are working with. Kinda hard to help if we don't know how it looks. Also why don't you call Iboats and see if they could email you the diagram for it.
Take the control box off the boat and ther is a 1/4-20 bolt on the backside that goes into the threaded part of the handle. That will get the handle off and it probably has screws to separate the handle.
Figured 90% of it out. Got the box unmounted. Anybody with bigger arms than mine couldn't have done it. Also got the throttle off and the top part of the handle off. Will have to take the cover off the box to get to the wires but should be able to get it get it back going. Now i can order the switch with confidence :)
Nothin but a step for a stepper!!
Guess I'll order some plugs too might as well tune here up since it's torn apart and not going anywhere.
Oreilys has them cheap, like 3 or 4 bucks each for our motors
A bit cheaper on ebay nkg for 15 bucks for 6. But 3 or 4 bucks is still cheaper than last time I bought.
I will have to look, I got a carb loading up so if I idle around much I will foul a plug or 2 so I change the fouled ones all along, thanks for the heads up.
You bet. I'm suprised mine don't foul as rich as i mix it 😆
But i am either all out or dead still.
Gotta run wide open so you can breathe in that thing:biggrin
Yep!!!!
Idle is what gets mine, yours smokes worse than my diesel when I first crank it on a 20 defree morning, lol!!!
Hahahaha.....7 gallons of fuel means i fill the oil to 7.5...my little safety feature lol. You may need to look at an injector on that 7.3 :)
Just smokes on a cold start and just for a second or two. She'll turn over 323k this morning on the way to the lake!!
Nice!!
Mine broke, i fixed it, now I'm broke but the truck is tip top.
I am sensing a theme here Mike with broke stuff, hope it don't rub off!
Were all good. Wires are good....corossion didn't get past the terminal ends. Trolling batteries on the other hand i think were toast anyway. Both are bulging on the ends. Thought i noticed it before but once i got them out i could tell. So a few terminal ends, two 50amp cb's, and some batteries and I'm good to go.
Trim switch will be here Tuesday.
Don't get me started on lawn mowers lol.
