Only the top 36
14 + lbs is a good weight at Washington this time of year.
Wow. Still haven't seen a 3 pounder caught in 3 tourneys there
A 3.02 won the big mamma
Least there was a 3 pounder. 3-4 years ago we had 6-7 in one tourney. Took an almost 4 pounder to win if fish
This year big momma was 2.81 I believe !!!!
Lake conditions are as bad as I've seen in a long long time.. The big Mommas are still there..
How high is it? Muddy also I'm guessing?
2-3 ft above normal
The lake is fine, but too many 2.5lb fish leaving. There are a lot less 3lb fish this year over the past years. I remember a few years back there would have been 10-12 over 3's caught with 88 Good teams fishing Washington. Not near as many caught now. I guess we should continue to grow the sport until you can walk across the lake from boat to boat. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
All the healthy, live fish weighed in at Washington were released back to the lake. With the 2lb+ big girls, take your pics and put em back. You can only kill em Once!!! If you do catch a 3+ fish and want it mounted go ahead. Just put back the ones that are close. You'll reap the benefits in a few years if ya do.
Wait for it!!!
I believe and this is only my belief that the lake is on a decline of bigger fish. Maybe becuase of the pressure that it has on it now? "The Secret is Out"
sorrta... Im with BRM.. fish and take what you need, dont be a hog and over take.... just saying.
Thanks guys. I'm not going down to bring fish home, I catch plenty of fish around here. Just want a chance at a really big fish. And yes it will be put back.
We had two low water spawns 8-9 years ago here. They spawned in the outer trees where the yo-yo's could have their way and drove around in the beds all night long. We are missing a lot of those fish from those years. The good news is that there have been fantastic spawns since then and we have huge numbers in the 1lb to 1.5lb growing now. The 3lb fish will be fewer for a couple of years then will begin to show up regularly after that. Wish we had restrictions like Grenada here to help weather the pressure
I'm with ken & bill the lake needs a length limit & the limit lowered. It doesn't have the size to sustain the pressure. It's not Grenada . 5 fish under needs to go to.
I wasn't there for the tournament myself but y'all remember this, all lakes go in cycles. With smaller lakes the cycles are exaggerated. The conditions also played a big role I am sure. Washington is probably the most fertile lake most any of us will ever fish and gets a ton of pressure every year. It not only produces giant crappie but also tons of catfish, huge bass, and world class bluegills. I agree it should probably have some restrictions placed upon it due to the shear numbers of folks fishing, its size, and the fact that on "most" days, it is relatively simple lake to figure out. Whenever I get to go there I feel as though I am a privileged person for a short while. It would be nice for this to be able to continue.
There is talk of removing the 5 under 10". IWe are working the yoyos hard now and have been hitting the over limits of short fish since January. 1-800-BE SMART. Call us.
I agree with removing the under 10" limit but would like see a 11" limit as well. Eagle lake about the same size had it done. Eagle doesn't get the spot as Washington does either. I urge everyone that has an opinion on this issue contact the MDWFP. I know they did two studies on Washington this past fall. I haven't heard of what they learned from them yet. We the crappie fishermen need to let them know what we see happening on the lake. It's our responsibility to keep this lake one of the best in the nation.
Thank you. We can't catch everybody but we try. 😀
If you Into kettchin you ain't work in!!
We will let you know when the dually with the freezer and generator in the bed shows up. Kind of like the way y'all wait till he has spent his money buying filets then take the truck and the fish. Makes the rest think twice about Mississippi.
Heflin seems to be more of the warden we need!! The good Ol boy wardens have plagued MS FER Toooo long!! Good work Hef!!!
I am confused. Crappie is a game fish here in Alabama, so they cannot be caught and sold. Does Mississippi not regulate them as gamefish?
Yes. I was making a joke. We have had issues in prior years where fish were caught, filleted locally and transported to where the sale of "perch" is not prohibited. Ms game and fish have reduced this dramatically. Teams would roll in and put up 300 yo-yo's and rotate in 8-12 hour shifts. Factory fishing. Our wardens have pretty much shut that down. That's where my hate of yo-yo's come from. Not those who fish them legally and responsibly.
