I, like probably a lot of other people looking to come down there to catch some of the normal spring action, am pretty worried when looking at yalls 10-15 day forecast. With temps in the upper 70's and even a few low 80's for most everyday that I can see, is this spawn fixing to be here and gone by first week in april...or sooner? I know what water temps were on nader yesterday. Really hoping this rain coming prolongs things a bit. Thoughts?
It's about a 8 week process. Weather is the factor of when they start. It could snow in April. It could be 90 in April.
It will depend on how much rain we get and where we get it. If the water temps are rite the fish will do there thing (i think) regardless of the weather. I doubt they will be done by the first of april!
Also when the red buds start to bloom it's starting. When dogwoods start to bloom it's prime time. When the dogwood blooms are gone its towards the end.
Hey bird, a 10-15 day forecast means nothing down here to me.....any forecaster predicting weather out that far is just guessing. I look at 3-5 day forecast and look at the surface weather maps to see what's coming down the pipe. I don't think they'll be done by the 1st of April either.:twocents
Some of the best fishing I had down here was in early to mid April, this was after most folks we're saying the spawn pretty much done and we was hauling in huge spawning females in shallow water. Now I will say we have had a very mild winter and the water temps are warming up pretty quickly now. I think you will be fine, may have to be a little more versatile on your tactics, and the 5 day forecast has changed three times since yesterday here so I wouldn't put much stock in a 10 to 15 day forecast :twocents
Yea the weather folks around here arnt real sure what its going to do. They were calling for west sound west winds saturday morning and the wind was out of the east till after dinner. haha so you never can tell. That 15 day forcast will change everyday!Quote:

Water temp plays a big part but the biggest influence is by where the sun and moon are on the horizine. That more than anything else determines when they will really get on the beds. Warmer temps will have them staging sooner though. Think this rain may just cool them temps off some when it hits.

Water temp at 64 degrees for a period of time. Water settled also. Latter March and all of April.
you can catch em wading right now but that far out it could be freezing and wind howling like it has at my house today blowing about 30 mph it's tornado season anything can happen with mother nature and all of our weather men went to barber college and they sack grocery's on the side

Yep, I get a 5 day forecast at 1 pm daily. I checked at at bedtime last night. High for today would be 67 with light winds. Nope, more like 74 and all the wind chimes were ringing.

Easily a month plus long process. I've always caught fish spawning all the way thru May and a few into June at Sardis! They don't all do business at the same time. Biggest factor to me is not when, but will mother nature cooperate to allow me on the lake (Wind-Storms). ALWAYS the biggest problem. Case in point, Monday the lake was slick. Tuesday we had 20-30 MPH winds. Its going to be downright warm this week for this time of year with storms moving in. But my two cents is we have a cold spell or two yet to make its way in. Law of averages.
