I have it. My only complaint is that the gps is slow. I use the Navionics HotMaps Premium. It takes it a few seconds to update your location and when you are idling up to a spot it can be frustrating.
I just bought a Hook 5 for my kayak. One reason I went with the Hook is that it is supposed to have a faster processor in addition to a few other features but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I'm hoping to tomorrow. However I believe the Elite's are marked down in price and may even have a rebate on them.
Excuse me boys...I was referring to the Elite 5x chirp in my original post which I know is just a fish finder (no GPS). Sorry if there was any confusion. :popcorn
I think there's a little confusion here
1 Mosquitopat ask about an Elite 5x chirp, said nothing about GPS
2 jem270 was the one that said gps was slow
so it wasn't you mosquitopat it was the other poster jem270 that caused the confusion. Wonder which unit he has.
Still looking for some field test replies on this unit (Lowrance Elite 5x CHIRP). Any and all are welcomed. Thanks :woohoo
I have the Elite 5DSI (no 2d/chirp) ... and it's a fine unit. I would expect the E5x to be a good unit, especially for those whom still prefer to use 2d sonar. Chirp just makes the 2d image a little clearer. The DI screen on the E5x should be just as good as the one on my E5DSI, since it's basically the same unit (minus GPS & 2d added).
If I wanted a DI/2d capable unit, for around $200, I think I'd certainly consider that unit. (especially knowing now what I know about the DI images it is capable of) :twocents
... cp :kewl
Thanks CrappiePappy, I have a handheld Garmin Etrex Vista which is why I didn't purchase the Elite 5 Chirp. Can't wait to try it out
this Spring. Actually, it is easier to identify the fish on the traditional sonar screen than on the DS screen when in the simulation mode.
Guess we'll see soon.
