Better take in the sails and batten down the hatches yall
Wished we could get a couple warm weeks with no rain!:fish
Your right Tony, gonna be a rough night!
High water better for the bridges more so than low, A stain is good also but all this makes it chocolate milk then it gets tough!! Also if the rain puts too much in the big G the water will be up over the door openings of the docks so no shooting the docks this weekend ,unless you know someone that would be nice enough to raise his boat house doors HAHA
The creeks and sloughs I like to fish will look like chocolate milk in a blender after all this rain! :banghead
No college football to watch, high muddy water makes a rough weekend. Might go to trade day
Yeah, Guntersville is terrible right now. Water is almost back up to normal levels but there is alot of mud thrown into the mix now. I was really hoping for a few more days of good, dry weather so I could drop the kayak in the Flint. I drove by it twice today and it looks like the Flint and Paintrock wont be down to normal for quite a while.
I might have enough water in the back yard to spider rig in, may I can get a few there!
Maybe we will get a break for a while :dono
Calling for rain next week
This wind is tuff on the hill.gotta be gusting25-30mph.
I'm finding some Crappie this weekend if I have to use dynamite.
Knowing you DB the backyard would probably work for you! Lol
Just checking in on the AL Board to make sure everybody made it through the storms and Tornadoes. Hope you guys are safe and well. Checked in on the LA Board, they had 3 fatalities down there. Looks like we're gonna have another tough spawn year with all the El Nino rain and storms!
Starting Saturday in the Big G area looking at 60° or better for 6 days in a row even hitting 70 on Tuesday BUT rain forecast at 60% Monday , 20% Tuesday, Thunderstorms Wednesday at 60% and Thursday and Friday 60% rain per the weather channel 10 day forecast Night temps above freezing although after Wed night going into the 30's.Hopefully they will miss the rain part!!
Thanks for thinking of us army. I live in what they call Tornado Pass but it went NE of us so we missed it. I was caught 5 mins from the last one we had. Scary stuff.
As far as today goes, I was planning on going but not sure. Accuweather says good fishing day but water is very murky. I was going to try the crappie nibbles and minnows. The water is only 6-8 ft deep by the Pier. I can't access bridges and all that so that is my only option. The wind chill is 30 with NW 8mph wind direction. What do you guys think? Waste of money and time going today? Also note, last time I caught all those big crappie it was 51 degrees outside.
Well I'm done for a while. I have been every weekend in the past month and a half with only 4 to show. I went out and got crappie nibbles, all sorts of tackle, live minnows each time too, new line, crappie magnets and...nothing to show for it. I sat out there yesterday for 4 hrs freezing and not one bite. I'm done wasting my money on bank fishing. I just moved here and there is only Lay Dam/Mitchell or Lay Lake and I'm not catching anything from docks. I ask people for a boat ride but noone really wants to do that. I don't blame them. It's not like it was 20 years ago. I wish u all the best and good luck with your fishing. Thanks for the helpful tips.
Give 'em a break, but don't give up! Better times are a'comin. Nobody's doing much of anything over here in 'ssippi either. Water's all messed up everywhere in the south and I think fish are in transition from winter habits to pre-spawn(just my opinion). When El Nino quits messin' up our weather, we finally gonna catch some fish!
It says it is going to be in the lower 60s today and I'm thinking of going to lake purdy. Its a 30 min trip.....but on their website it says people are catching crappies off the bank on minnows. I'm not sure how deep that water is though off their banks. Never been there.
Have you tried Bibb county lake? I fished there years ago.
Don't let what you read or hear others are doing get you discouraged. Every area or body of water is different and depending on who is doing the reporting they may just be trying to sell bait. The thing to pay attention to is what you see around you. If you don't see others fishing there's probably a good reason. Down here on the coast every one is always catching fish according to the bait dealers.
Hope so, I'm going to try to go Monday.
Well, this is an interesting story to tell you armyman ..... check this crap out!
Ok, so I went to the lake again yesterday on my off day. I fished from 11am all the way to 5pm - not one Crappie! I only had Bream stealing my minnows. Ok, so these two men ride by BASS fishing. They were having a BASS Tournament. So they asked was I getting a bite and I replied, "no sir". He said, "well, heck, might as well leave because we haven't gotten a bite yet and been here 3 hours!" So, doing the right thing mind you ... I said, "well, there is this BASS that keeps feeding over here by me to the left of me." So they proceeded to troll slowly over to my left side and threw a Lizard the very first cast. And guess what they caught?! A freakin 10 lb BASS! They guy was shaking and his partner almost lost it with the net. So he holds it up in the air, yelling to everyone and taking pictures of it and he even said wow this is the biggest BASS I've ever caught! His buddy said they were going to win the Tournament.
So, I'm just watching and waiting ... watching and waiting ... get this - the guy didn't even thank me. That really bothered me. They just drove off into the sunset.
So this other couple rolls up on me and ask me if I'm getting any bites and I told them what just happened and they were livid! The woman asked me if they offered me any money or even said thank you, and of course I replied, "no."
Sorry, I just had to tell someone. I think that was just wrong of them in my fishing book. People just aren't friendly anymore. :dono
This is on their website. They post photos of people and their catch, and what they're using and so forth. Just go take a look at their site. And I know people who go there and they are reporting good. I've been fishing Lay Lake this entire month and even the people in the boat say nothing is biting.
Hey, jem. Nope. Never. I grew up trolling with rattle-traps (Smoky Joe is the best!) Jackson's Lake, Alabama River and Cooter's Pond with my grandfather in his Bass Tracker. After he passed away with a stroke, I haven't been able to get back out with anyone with a boat. He gave it to me but my uncle took it and just let it sit up and rot. Dam $19,000 boat just rotting. I don't own a truck, so I never tried to purchase one. I mainly try to find local spots that have a non-snaky bank to fish on. Every where I go I can never fish more than 6 ft deep. That's why I keep begging people for a boat ride. I'm going to save up some $ and just rent a boat at Lake Purdy later.

What do you think guys about this weekend? Columbiana, AL area? :pray
Before going to Bibb County Lake I would check and make sure it is open. It is not open all year long.
Open sunrise to sunset:
February 1 - June 30: Open six days each week. Closed Mondays.
July 1 - November 30: Closed Mondays & Tuesdays.
December 1 - January 31: Closed.
I befriended them on Facebook and asked for the Crappie Report. They wrote back and told me the Crappie haven't moved in yet.
I might try Saturday the Pier again. I don't have money to rent a boat yet, so I guess it's Pier for me again .... :dono
Tomorrow is going to be too cold.
WOW! You can rent a Jon Boat for $30 all day at Bibb County Lake?! It's stocked and only 100 acre lake; that is awesome! Kids would love that. Manager of the Lake just told me to come middle of March and no one has been catching anything out there lately. She gave me some great tips too! I'll be going there end of March!
