Keystone still getting no love
6" fish still count.
Did last year Floyd! 😎
Josh we had 2 tournaments at Keystone and didn't have more than 10 teams in each one. EB
You down this year pappa?
Josh, you got me thinking about trying Keystone again. It was a decent lake for me 6 or 7 years ago, but it took a nose dive and began to leave a bad taste in my mouth. It just may be that the spots I fished declined and I wasn't able to find other parts of the lake that produced. I would like to have a closer to home lake to fish, especially for those half days when you can only get out for a bit. Salt creek arm is only 45 min from me.
I can do it.
Will there be someone at the weigh in location to verify live fish? Not all of the ones who enter have livewell set ups like some of us. Having to keep the fish alive for over an hour from the time fishing hours stop until weigh in may be hard for some.
Swollencrappie, that's a good question with all of us fishing the tournament it's hard to have someone there to verify at the earliest time you can weigh in, you know. EB
Josh, I like Keystone lake don't know why we didn't have more teams in it.
I don't think we have done this in the past. I do know we shortened summer tourneys for fear of this. If that is a concern for an angler you may want to come up with a tagging system and find another boat that may let you put fish in his well. Personally I wouldn't have a problem with that. But may want to see if everyone is ok w it.
Correct Dstreet, it wasnt done in the past. It was a set weigh in time and failure to be at weigh in by set time resulted in dqual. In my mind a see it being a problem because we have had guys in float tubes join us, those in kayaks have shown interest and even bank anglers. Some are lucky to make it the 10 minute drive from the ramp to the scales before losing fish. Granted they may need to find better support systems for the fish. I just see it as a possible problem to have to keep fish alive for up to 90 minutes after fishing hours stop. Sharing livewells with other teams will also get into a hairy situation depending on if the other team wants to keep more then 7, they may keep their limits and now would be over, switching fish, killing fish and laying blame and so on. If a boater stays on the water for an additional 45 minutes to pump fresh water to their catch then there are rumors that they didnt stop fishing at the cut off time, especially if they pull in a win. What is the benefit or reasoning behind the 1 hour delay between fishing hours and weigh in? Not trying to be difficult and maybe this is a system that works well in other trails. I dont know. Just issues i can see coming up but could be totally wrong. Just dont see the advantages of it.
Josh Jones, you should consider doing a challenge on Keystone. Keystone was always held in the winter. We competed against hunting season and extreme cold temps. As stated it was never a good turn out and i can see why it was removed from the trail. I do think that with your knowledge of the lake and when the fish turn on, you may be able to start planning for a challenge that will have a great turn out and will also count as half of a tournament towards fishing the classic. Something to consider atleast.
That is a good idea the first Challenge I did was on Eufaula in Gaines creek. Put it on the board 2 weeks prior and had over 20 teams. It was a good deal, lots of fun. EB
I remember that EB. I didnt get to take part in it but actually remember that being a fun challenge for people and talked about a lot long after the challenge took place. The great thing about a challenge is can be anywhere at any time and can be a lot of fun. New waters. Old waters. Certain methods of fishing only. So many things. And a new face (Josh Jones) starting to hold a challenge or two that would bring new faces and levels of competion to the tournaments.
Things heating up here for me, three days of over 10 and one being 11.12 pound bag, The females starting to belly up good, all from piles in 20 to 25 fow. all on Mikes custom baits, Hoping to have a good turn out for the first tourney,
Who is planning to attend??? Would like give John some notice as to How many minnows to have on hand for anyone wishing to use them. And he usually has some biscuits w bacon/sausage for sale,
Nip and I are in. We'll need minnows....:biggrin
What about using an extra 12 volt aerator and, depending on time of, adding ice to the live well to chill the water to make the fish more dormant
Nmolina and I are in. No minnows needed though
I'm going old school, bringing earthworms and crawdads back. Don't know if they'll work on crappie though.
Can anyone enter the tournament? If so, where can you sign up?
Norman Dales, yes, anyone is allowed to sign up and fish. Dstreet is running this Kaw tournament, but I am assuming registration and weigh in will be at the One Stop in Kaw City. You will be able to sign up the morning of the tourney. If you think you will fish it and need minnows please let Dstreet know here on this thread. Hope to see you there.
I plan on fishing the Eufaula and Wister tourneys.
Yes, I spoke with John from Kaw One Stop, He is planning to open the doors at 6 and will have some breakfast stuff available for purchase, We will check in from 6 to 6:30 at the One stop, Have a short meeting at 6:30, Fishing will START at 7am and STOP at 3 pm, You have up to one hr to get to weigh in site at at Kaw one stop, MUST BE IN WEIGH IN LINE AT 4, Please help me in thanking John for letting us use his place, He hs also recently gotten a selection of Bonehead baits, Timmy Tom Jigs in the bait room so check those out if your in need, and as Josh mentioned mssg me my # is 580*761*6256 if you plan on needing minnows or have any further questions, Hoping for a good turnout,
Details on the Eufaula tournament will be posted later in the month. EB
We will be needing some minnows.
Hoping to see some of the Locals, we have some good fisherman up here, that do a lot of pile work, and could outfish me any day, not that's saying much, but would be great to have them fish it.
Heard some fellars from north of the border won it last year.
Mark a friend of mine was here from Mo. and him and his son won it rigging over a pile. The year before that was when some Ks. boys (Bybee if not mistaken) won it from up in the creeks with some toads.
Looking at the weather this week there's not gonna be any advantages for anybody. Gonna be a lot of luck involved !!
My money is on TimY! His prefish pictures are pretty awesome.
My son has to work Saturday so we are not going to get to fish the tournament. Really disappointed. Don't want to fish it without him. I am planning on coming to the weigh in and meeting a few folks. Good luck to everybody really hope it's GREAT tournament. Can't say where I've been fishin on the lake but will say the water temp is the key right now.
With all the baitfish there is some giant crappie this year. I am confident the 3 pound lake record will fall this spring hopefully Saturday.
Don't know how much rain you guys got up there but 3.5" here yesterday and heard there was another 2" coming Friday.
Got just under 1/2 an inch here in Kaw City. Lake is in great shape. Chance of light rain Friday night into Saturday morning but no accumulation.
