Anyone know of any bait shops around Lake Hogue? Also any minor tips about the lake would be greatly appreciated. I was going to try to go to horseshoe or midway but It looks like the wind is going to be up tomorrow

The one on the lake burned. Closest I know is pillows in paragould.
Nearest one I know of is in jonesboro. A gas station at 5514 Stadium Blvd. Haven't been to hogue this year, but usually do ok with blue/chartreuse or blue/white jigs fished about 3 ft. Sometime tip with minnows. Hogue gets pretty rough in a good wind.
Thanks I'll be going through Jonesboro on the way so I'll stop there. I believe pillows is closed for the season according to their Facebook. Asked wife to pick up minnows from the farm they have today but she wasn't going for it
I'm not 100% but I don't think pillows bait shop is closed. Newer bait place...across from green county tech school muddy waters outdoors , and the place on hwy 1 just south of jonesboro tractor sales. Good luck
I'll be there in the morning. The station on S. Stadium is the only local place that I know of.
Pillows is back open. Picked some up today :ThumbsUp. How was houge?
I got a nice limit there this morning. Didn't see alot of folks catching too many. I was the guy in the white hat grey shirt and frog toggs pants. Wondering if I talked to any .comers today.
That was my ratio saturday. Caught 40+ and brought home 16. Biggest one about 1 lb. I know the area AGFC biologist and have been trying to get him to revive the tilapia program. Over fishing has left the lake with a shortage of older year class fish. The tilapia would accelerate the growth rate of the predator species and assist in the lakes recovery. Otherwise, it will have to go through a cycle like it and many lakes do where the fishing gets to such poor quality that the fishing pressure is reduced to the point that the fish can rebound in numbers and age.
Those little ones eat taste just like the big ones. Probably taking out some smaller fish would help the lake up to a point.
I was the one in a silver boat with a wife and a dog. Caught 27 and kept 13. All on the smaller side but decent keepers. Biggest prolly a pound as well
I put in when the rain stopped about 8:30. Finished my limit at 3:00. I had one around 1.5 5 at a pound and the rest were biggest of the small fish. It felt like I caught well over a hundred.
I'm hoping to get down there soon. Have to wait for a day that's not to windy since my boat motor is shot. I have to use just the trolling motor, and don't want to end up with a dead battery.
Anyone got a fishing report on Hogue? I see a chance to get away tomorrow.
I was there on Monday, only caught 8 small crappie, of course wind was out of the east so expected slow fishing. Water surface temp was 47F at 8 am and surface warmed to 52.6F by the time I left at noon. Wednesday and Friday fished Poinsett, and did a little better with the wind still out of the east, but at least everything I caught was 11 to 14 inches. Fish were still in deep water at Poinsett and suspending at about 17 feet right at the thermocline.
I fished ashbaugh with my dad today. Ended up with 24. Good day with a good mess of fish. Wasn't action packed, but pretty steady with 5-6 fish an hour.
I heard a few were being caught at wapanacca, but I don't have any first hand experience there this year. One of those things where "my buddy heard from his brother that his friend's girlfriend's uncle caught his limit there quick" so, take it for what it's worth. Good luck wherever you end up
Between you and RCC, ya'll are going to have me driving to Ashbaugh on Monday. I haven't heard any real good reports on Wapanacca yet, the one I did get said they were small, but that was from Wednesday.
We hit Ashbaugh Sat to try the trolling for the first time. Caught several all on the small side. Im sure someone that knows half of what they are doing could find some fish.
Heads up! It's on in NEA we had pretty good couple days this weekend. Quit waiting on the word and get out there!!!! Tight lines guys!!
