I didn't see anything in the official rules that it has to be a crappie to take the big fish prize :) My father in law Andy has been known to catch the most random fish species, usually big and ugly. He's liable to show up to the dock with a monster catfish or gar or something we don't even know about. :) a few weeks ago two of us limited out on speckled trout and we caught his limit, he however caught a 20+ lb jack cravelle, the only non trout species caught.
Crappie only for the money, but we will look at and talk about any kind.
