Way to go Lee. Love those winter crappie for a great fish fry!
Get um!
Wow! Very nice! What time of day and where were you?
I'm going this upcoming weekend, Pier fishing again, supposed to be an Excellent day on the fishing! 72 degrees Friday and Saturday. I'll be using minnows. Hey, quick question. I've been using 1/16 and 1/32 and they just don't seem to be hooking them. You think I should just go with a long wire #2 Aberdeene instead of the jig head and use a small split shot?
you can find jig heads with #2 or bigger hooks. just not at walmart. find a local bait and tackle shop.
I have those. Let me ask you this; how are you hooking your minnows? I tried thru the mouth - they die, thru the eye - they die, thru the back - they die, out the gills - they die., thru the tail - they die
Minnow fishing with a drift thru the eyes, when using a cork behind the dorsal fin or the tail, using a jig thru the eyes.Anyway that's the way I have my best luck using live bait.Good luck this weekend.
A minnow will drown after a few cast no matter how they are fished, so get some extra bait for the ones that are no longer active.
Well, the thing is, with the way the water moves plus the wind factor, I am having to fish from a Pier and the minnow I cast out pretty far but within minutes, it's back floating where I'm at. I go to cast out again and it's dead. That's why I was looking for someone with a boat. I grew up trolling with Rattle Traps and so forth. Thanks for the luck! I'm taking my kids again. When I hook them thru the tail, they just take the minnow right off the hook!! :scratchhead
I like to use an Aberdeen #2 hook. When fishing a minnow under a slip bobber so you can adjust your depth, I like to hook the minnow behind the dorsal fin thru the back, but you have to be careful not to hook them thru the back bone, stay above the back bone, put a piece of split shot about 12" above the minnow. The minnow will continue to fight to swim down when you have them hooked this way and attract the crappie for a free meal.
BAMA S,
Way to go!
