Robert, I have never come close to running my battery down. Have run for several hours and still had plenty of reserve. Now the guys that pull cranks run faster and I can see that would draw it down faster, plus my boat is not real heavy.
I was never satisfied with the 12volt system. 1/2 way thru the day I would notice I needed to increase the power to keep speed. Now I run a 24volt trolling motor on 16'skiff. I run everything on the boat off those batts to keep weight down. I'm running a minn Kota 80# autopilot. I do have a question. The ipilot controller runs thru batts like I do fried chicken. Two full days and the batt in controller is dead. Anybody else have this problem? The batts the controller uses are expensive.

Make sure when your done fishing hold the pause button down till the remote goes black.when I would just hold down the prop button to turn off remote I went thru a battery every 2 or 3 months.now one battery last all year.hope this helps you.
Eatmorecrappie, I have one battery under the front deck and one under the console. I use the one under the console as my "house" battery for all electronics and the big motor.
When I ran a 12V system I still had two big Walmart MAXX batts hooked up in parallel. Mine lasted from daylight to dark with plenty left. Ifm youre considering a 55# trust for your pontoon I would definitely go with two batts. I wonder if 55#'s would be enough for you though.

the one I have in it ran 2 1/2 hrs. last time I had it out.
and died dead never had one that lasted all day == even on a boat.

If you run two parallel, they should be bought at the same time, if they are different age battery, run one till it gets weak and switch to the other one, I got mine on a switch where I can switch from one to the other.
When I had my 16' Carolina Skiff I ran the 55# trust motor. On calm days the I-pilot did great but on a day when the wind kicked up I could run mine dead too because I was using speeds above middle ways into headwinds. That's why I QUICKLY added a second battery and ran them in parallel. I also found out the 55# was marginal at best for my boat since it sat on top of the water and was subject to getting blown around alot. Allen (my son) runs a 17' tracker and he wished he went bigger than a 55# trust too. His does OK but when the wind kicks up his tm works harder than he likes running on settings above "5" to maintain his speeds (he striper fishes and is always pulling boards). On my Ranger I'm running a 70# trust and it's ideal for my boat and never has to get into the higher speeds to keep me at the speed I wanna troll.
When I remember to add water after charging, they seems to last a little longer.
