the best investment would of been to bet me four or five years ago that we would ever see gas at a buck fifty again.Cause I would've bet you ten thousand dollars we would not and felt good about it. Unbelievable.
As soon as the ragheads drive all the US oil companies and frackers out of business, it will be back to $3.00+. When the public failed to revolt over $3 gas, we set the bar that will soon be back there. Mark my word!
35 gallons 01/31/2016 at 0.47 per gallon. 35 gallons today at 0.41 per gallon. Got 0.90 off per gallon to use before the end of the month. Got 0.60 off per gallon so far for March.
I bought gas in Fort Smith today for $1.28, if you had their cash card it was $1.25

1.65 at shell in hernando for diesel yesterday afternoon with kroger discount. I'm liking it.
It seems the fuel prices are always a bit lower (with or without points) in the Batesville area. I get 5 cents off on my Walmart card at most Murphy Oil stations and Sam's Club.
Yeah we get the paper printed in Batesville and always fill up while there at the new station across from wally world. They have good diesel prices as well but my truck runs better off the Scott fuel in Grenada and their price is usually good for diesel.
My brother filled their Kroger card with points. They left for CA to visit family. They stop in TX to refill at a Shell, suppose to get 0.10 off with card. The pump won't accept the card. He's talking to his wife about it. The person on the next pump says the Kroger card is no good from TX west. We did the same last month and now headed back east.

Election year. Their just trying to get us poor people to vote in corporate America's favor again like they did last time.
I have to disagree that it is an election ploy. Don't get me wrong, those snakes will do everything possible to steal your vote but this goes above national politics. This is an international war right now. Oil prices are set on an international level. Right now, OPEC is terrified of the US fracking industry. For the first time in history, we as a nation are on track to be able to produce enough oil to not have to import from the Middle East. If that happens, their economies will crumble. Any other time in history Saudi Arabia and the rest of the oil producing nations would just slash production, drive supply down, and drive prices back up. But right now they are slashing the cost of oil so that it is more economical to buy their oil than to pump our own. Their goal is to bankrupt fracking operations. And it's working. Oil field layoffs are astronomical. Entire rig blocks are shut down and empty. 20% of the US merchant Marine fleet is tied up with no crews onboard. My company, who hasn't layed off an employee in 85 years had to reduce the number of able bodied seaman and officers by over 15% this year.

Yep they are bankrupting the American oil industry and in return, drive the price back up just enough to make it not fees able for us to produce and at the same time them profit the most possible.
I would gladly pay 2.50 a gallon. Who can actually say they have saved the few extra bucks from every fill up with prices being lower??
And is that few dollars savings worth the other industries that will start to decline such as construction, auto industry, totesome stores, private mechanic shops, town cafes, etc??
The longer oils stays down the more businesses will decline..
Money velocity is always higher when oil is higher.
Diesel was at it's highest I was filling up twice a week, 2 trucks, to the tune of 155 bucks a fill up, today I fill up for 55 so we are talking more than a few dollars. 100 bucks is 100 bucks.
The oil industry put itself where it is largely with the help and influence in the political world so to say politics is not involved, well I just don't buy it and by March of 2017 things will be back to normal or maybe not time will tell.
Don't get me wrong Rees, politics is deeply involved in the oil and gas industry. The billionaire conglomerate owners put themselves where they are are with political involvement. The industry put itself where it is at to meet our demand, on the backs of hardworking men and women.
I'm just saying what is happening right now is not a national political ruse to buy votes. It's and international economic war.
The fact that diesel is so much higher in price than gas is political greed. They drove it up because it's the one fuel that we NEED to function. We can drive our cars more or less depending on our own finances but trucks and trains and ships have to move everyday. Topped of the tanks on this ship last night to the tune of $46,000. Personally, I'll take even a penny saved so that I can spend it on jigs and crank baits!
What ticks me off is that back in the early 70's we were told that the oil and gas was just about gone. We were only allowed to buy like 5 gallons of gas at a gas station at a time. Now they are flooding the market with oil and gas. Wonder what lie they will tell next to cause gas to go back to $5.00 a gallon.
No lies, just evolving technology and global politics. It's somewhat complicated how it all works. I know because it's my business to know, how I make a living. Saw this coming over a year ago and attempted to warn folks to no avail.
A lot more Americans benefit from lower gas prices then the number of people that get laid off. The money saved by normal Americans is able to be spent on other things and businesses. The number of oil companies and employees laid off is a small percentage compared to the number of Americans that benefit from low prices. Oil company's made Record profits while the rest of us suffered. We ran a trucking company and we had 13 trucks when fuel prices jump so high during the recession we were put out of Business after 23 years because Companies didn't want to pay enough of a freight rate to make a profit. It took 2 to 3 years for companies to get use to higher rates. Thousands of small companies and owner operators went under. It was estimated over 100,000 drivers lost their jobs. But yet The oil companies made all time record profits during this time. why couldn't they suffer a little bit then like everyone else? Just my opinion which don't mean much!t
Sadly, it's the same thing now. It's the workers who are suffering. The small mom and pop organizations who are going under. Yes the big names are hurting some but they will be fine they are too diversified, they just keep firing people till their profit margin returns. Luckily my ship is contracted to carry petrochemicals, so regardless of the price of oil, we keep sailing. Either we will win, or OPEC will. But this won't be the same as when the prices skyrocketed several years ago. Enjoy it while you can because it will go back up, and when it does......be ready. Cause I don't think it is going to be pretty.

I'm not a macro economist nor a financial guru but I do know there are many positive effects of lower fuel costs. I do regret the huge loss of jobs in the energy producing sectors. I'm sure there are other negatives I can't imagine. On the other side I see a lowering of costs for goods and services across the board as a result of cheaper fuel, including especially the farmers of America. While I have sympathy for the energy folks I also know we've paid way too high for far too long. Lastly, I see a much needed boost in the pocket for each person that drives and, for me, it's not an insignificant amount. Not wanting to dispute anyone, just add a little to the discussion. :twocents
Right now I work on a 110' 3800hp towboat. All together we are about 1000' long by 60-100' wide. Pushing 12,000-24,000 tons of liquid cargo.
We run from Houston, TX to Decatur, AL. So we get either ICWW or offshore sections headed to mobile depending on draft, then we reconfigure to head up the Mobile River, Tombigbee, Tenn-Tom, Tennessee River, and Kentucky Lake, then back down the Ohio and Mississippi before we head back over to Houston. It's a beautiful run. Beats the heck out of running big ships offshore.
My teachers used to say I would never making a living if I kept looking out the window.....guess I proved them wrong.
I would love to make trip like that.
