Can anyone tell me where I can get updated lake conditions for Midway lake near Hughes, Ark?
Haven't heard a word from Midway in a few years. Might contact one of the ramp owners there.
Hey Big River, do you have any news on the recent conditions and bite at Horseshoe or Old Town?
Old Town--two weeks ago water level good, clarity good, bite-----no good.
Are they catching them around docks or are they spider rigging? Also it has been years since I fished horseshoe. Where are the public ramps ?? Same places, far SW end by old restaurant and mid lake by the condos?
The old ramp at the south end has been improved by the game and fish after the land was donated to them. I haven't fished there in a few years, but that's supposed to be the best ramp now. Docks are always good, but haven't heard about the spider rigging. I know there have been a few doing it tho. We used to kill them there this time of year rigging.
Looking for minnows on the way to lake from Collierville. Is Jones Bait shop on Broadway the same place as the old Red Barn? Any other place on way to Horseshoe that would have minnows?
You can get minnows at Bonds grocery there at Thompson Grove. There have been several boats trolling on calmer days
Thanks for the info.
Don't get caught up with pics being posted on facebook....That guy really knows the lake!! And it won't be as easy for some. Kinda like a out of towner going to fish Conway a couple times a year. Just sayingnonono..
Went to run my little boat today before I came to work tonight. 1st time I have been out there in a few months. Seen 6 boats around the same pier so I decided to pull up to the pier next to it....Watched them and fished about 30-45 minutes before I had to load up and go to work. Wasn't no hammering going on then.
Just thought I would share what I actually observed.
I didn't say EVERY day, but overall they've been on. [emoji12]
You better know what you are doing or it is a pretty day and you don't mind not catching much of anything.
I can't learn the lake and I can't catch any fish sitting at home watching somebody else catching them on tv
I have searched everywhere for a phone # for a boat ramp at Midway. Nothing. Found pics on Facebook and had tel #s in background but no longer in service. I guess I will do it the old fashioned way. Get my truck and drive over there!! Big River shows 17' on Memphis gauge and on a rise to 24 over the next week. I would think that there would not be any flood water going in Midway at those levels.
Anybody with local knowledge ledge have any comments??
Midway doesn't get water in it until the river hits around 20-22' or more. You might call Bonds at Horseshoe for a report. They aren't to far away.
Not sure if the ramps are still being serviced, but you can look up Ed's or Fowlers fish camps there. It's been quite awhile, but the last time I launched at Midway I used Ed's ramp.
I think your good til it hits 26.... Billy E could prob help.. I will see if he will chime in
Hey tiger... I was wrong, it starts gettn in at 23.5
Well internet can be helpful. Found out lake is stable. Old Fowler's boat dock now under new ownership and has a web site Midway Lake Fish camp - Home. Minnows are to be had at Kitchens Cafe and bait store in Proctor. I am headed to Midway tomorrow. Wind is supposed to cooperate. Maybe I will even catch a couple.
let us know if this is true....
Crappie: Can be caught jigging around structure and trolling. All are good size ranging from 1.5 lbs and up!
I'll tell you one thing is true, "Asian Carp: Put your boat motor on idle and they will jump in the boat."
P.m. Bar pit
I went last weekend to Horseshoe but the wind was really bad . We didn't do any good but I found the fish I just couldn't get them to bite with my poles jumping up in down even in my 20ft ranger . The wind was brutal that day . I talked to a some locals and said the bite really shut down after the snow , water temp was about 43. 8 -45 . Good luck if you go I know I like the lake just hit it on a bad day.
My results from Midway on Saturday. Fished from 8:30 to 2:30. 1 drum and 1 white bass. Dodged several flying carp. Wind and temp conditions were perfect. Water surface temp ranged from 50 to 52. Water was still pretty stained. Saw 4 other boats all day and none appeared to be catching anything.
Sunday I changed my game plan. I fished a small (100 acre) lake in North MS and 2 of us caught 23 crappie and over 30 largemouth bass. 2 of them were over 5 lbs.
Thanks for the report
