Should I be able to get a reading while running the outboard at speeds around 30mph with the Helix SI/GPS? I realize I wont get the side imaging views at these speeds but would at least like to get a depth reading. It seems I lose everything when I reach about 15 mph? Thanks
It depends on the turbulence coming off your boat and across the tx. Some transoms just won't allow a good mount to get a reading. You can also try angling the tx forward a few degrees for an improved 2D reading at high speed, but that would make the SI look funny when using it
15mph is better than what I'm getting.

You can add an in hull transducer to solve your issue.

A lot of times your tranducer just needs adjustment. There is a fine line with the way it is mounted. Too deep and you get a big rooster tail, too shallow and you won't get a high speed reading. I have the same unit and I had to adjust the transducer several times before I got it just right.
Lowered. Mine 1/4inch reads top speed. Now 32 mph

Thanks for all the info guys, I'll post a picture of my transducer when I get home tomorrow and get your guys opinion.

I think your xducer is going to need to be moved down closer to the drain holes ...
That area of your mount is only partially in the water when your boat is up on plane ...

iPhone pix have an orientation tag attached to the data file that this vBullentin forum does not know how to read in order to properly orient an iPhone pic captured in Portrait orientation ...

I hate to hi-jack the thread but I also have a question. My SI transducer is to the right of my drain holes of my boat if ur looking at the back of the boat. When my motor is trimmed down, it blocks my left side if the water depth is less than 10 or so feet. This prevents me from being able to scan at faster speeds. Plus my screen washes out on the depth reading as well after about 12-15mph. Rickie's post above the transducer is directly above the drain holes. Does this eliminate one side being blocked? And also do you get a higher speed depth reading? Even with the transducer that high above the bottom of the boat? What kind of turbulence takes place with it being there? I have moved mine around quite a bit but I'm getting tired of drilling holes n my transom lol. Thanks guys for this thread!

That installation in the pic would also most likely have left SI blockage unless there is a jackplate big enough to set the motor back past the left SI beam ...
A shoot thru 2d and the AS SIDB Y cable is the most common Setup for high performance fiberglass hulls ...(which I assume is being used by the owner of the boat in the pic because the only xducer shown in the pic is the Compact SI xducer ... And it's not going to get high speed readings that far out of the water mounted up on the step like that) ...

ALSO PUT A BOARD PLATE THAT IS MADE FOR DUCER ,U CAN GLUE IT ON ,THEN U CAN MOVE DUCER AROUND ON IT WITHOUT PUTTING MORE HOLES IN BOAT,ALL HOLES WILL BE IN BOARD.U MAY ALSO HAVE TO MOVE YOUR WENCH MOUNT BACK ENOUGH SO BOAT DO NOT HIT THE BOARD THAT HOLDS YOUR BOAT UP OR MAY BE ABLE TO CUT SOME OF THE BOARD OFF SO DUCER DO NOT HIT
Thanks for all in the input! So is everyone in agreement I need to move the ducer up some? I thought the bottom of it had to be just below the boat line? As far as living it closer to the drain holes I had my old 2d transducer in the same location and never had any issues getting readings at high speeds. Thanks again
Depending on how heavy and how fast your boat is ...
There is a distinct possibility that only a 12" triangle of your hull pad is in the water at plane speed ...
Would any adjustment to your present mount location put that xducer actually in the water within that 12" triangle of water contact ...??

The blue line is the water line when your boat is up on plane ...
This means every time you hit a wave or turn left - your xducer is coming out of the water ...
The xducer needs to move down toward the drain holes to stay in the water 100% of the time that your boat is dancing on the hull pad at high speed ...
