Slab jus ta few pic of the slabs in northern Montana.
Those are all Black Crappie. Cool. Do you know if there are Whites there too? I kinda had thought with the open water there'd be Whites, but what do I know!
Fort Peck has a few.
Great pics. Good looking fish.
Nice pics. Thanks for posting them.
Are you getting those fish from Nine Pipes? My brother-in-law fishes there and gets several warmer water species, but I haven't heard him mention crappie. We spend the summers in Dillon, which has super trout fishing, but there are no crappie anywhere close.
No these are out of the Flathead drainage.
Thanks, Whip. I may have to visit my brother in Fortine this summer and see if I can find some crappie. Maybe I'll run into you up there. Do you use mostly plastic, or do you also use hair and feather?
I just got back from Lake Carl Blackwell, with 25 crappie, mostly 11"-13" and one 15"er. They liked a pink/green jig. Minnows were working for most of the people at the dock. Last week we tore 'em up trolling cranks, mostly Bandit 200's or 300's, Normans, and Wiggle Warts. Do you guys ever troll cranks? If not, try trolling at about 1.0-1.5 mph.
I fish a local guys tackle, Chancy's Crappie Candy and Big eye spinner Jigs. I here he is starting to do cranks baits for Crappie his Walleye and Bass are awesome, so I think his Crappie cranks will be great. Crappie are in about 50 lakes in the area and hear some of the lakes are producing 2#+ crappie.
