I'm over out of Mt Vernon. Haven't done anything since before Christmas with all the water everywhere. Will probably try somewhere next week and will report
The few fish I was catching in December were holding in deep bends of a creek. Water was 20 to 24 ft deep and fish were 10 to 12 ft deep. They were holding close to structure. The fish around here will soon be in pre spawn so I expect to find them close to spawning areas. After all this flood I'll be kinda hunting and pecking. :dono
got eight bream this morning, one crappie all on earthworms. Just can't figure the crappie out, trying to use jig's.
Go with minners till you locate fish and get your confidence up. I usually fish with minners and jigs. Remember where you caught that one because there are probably more in that area. Fish similar spots.
Thanks guy's I'll get it figured out. I started out using minners, not much luck there ether. Just got to find them!
When using jigs I always tip them with a crappie nibble. I use yellow or chartreuse and usually take them out of the jar and let them dry out some before I use them to help stay on the hook better. What area of delta are you fishing from? A little insight on where you are and maybe we can give you more direction. I'm not a pro but do well at times.
Most of the time I put in at Steele Creek "Satsuma" Fish in Bayou Sara. Normally I go to Little Catfish. Just under 2 miles from the launch, fish all the structure I can find. Also use Crappie Nibble.
Made a trip there last week. Fished a couple of the deep bends out of the Saraland public launch. Only caught 1 then I ran out to the mouth of little catfish but the water was running out pretty hard. Fished the deep water right outside the mouth of LC for a few minutes but didn't have any confidence so I packed it up. Went to Cedar Creek this morning and found fish in the deeper water but couldn't get them to bite. Barometer was high, 30.31 :dono
I cant figure them out there either. I have caught some good ones in Bayou Sara several years ago but I suppose it was luck. I prefer bayou zeast, shephards, david, or three rivers on that side of the delta. I caught 42 in 2 hours trolling jigs in a creek bend around 15 ft deep the weekend before the rain set in. Fish were suspended around 8 ft deep and the funny thing was they were not marking on my sonar but they were there. Hopefully in the next two weeks they will start biting again if we don't get any major rain. I was long lining around 1-1.2 mph.
Tony, have you caught any size in cedar creek? I have only been there twice but what I caught was small.
If you can find them biting there's decent fish. Had one 15 1/2 " couple of months ago. Sometimes you have to go through some small ones though.
Tony, maybe we could get together after deer season if your interested. If think we live about five minutes apart and I usually don't have anyone to go with me.
Might be a good plan. But since my wife and I have retired I don't usually fish on the weekends just mostly during the week. I kinda save the weekend for her but I can make exceptions.
Well, if you guy's are out there, stop by, I'll be around Little Catfish. Hobie kayak.
:ThumbsUp
Tony, I usually fish on Fridays if that's good for you. Starfox did I run in to you at the steele creek launch Saturday? I eas in a camo express and spoke to someone in a hobbie with a trolling motor.
:ThumbsUp
It's good to hear there's a few kayak anglers chasing Crappie in southern Alabama. I don't run into many up North!
hardhead, That was me, That was a nice rig you had. Hope I'll see ya again!
hardhead, That was me, That was a nice rig you had. Hope I'll see ya again! Ditch Basser, all I AM doing is chasing Crappie.
I piddle at fishing the delta every year, but not enough to really figure them out. I have mostly fished the creeks of of McReynolds mifflin and Dennis. I need to find some new spots just for a change of scenery! Now that hunting season is winding down I getting the fishing bug. marked a few fish in 8-10 feet of water today while duck hunting. I'm ready for the water to drop and clear up.
Probably gonna be a while on the clear up
That's what I am afraid of Tony the Tiger. The Escambia is also still high and has not fallen much in the past 4 weeks. I have not fished the Perdido before but thinking of trying it. Or making the drive and checking out Big Creek Lake. Never fished there but its a pretty lake and always looks clear.
I don't range to far. Pretty much stay close to home, Mobile river side of the delta. Old back won't let me sit still for long periods of time.
Had a nice Saturday, picked up supper!Attachment 228103
