Do you add Anise or Salt, maybe both to the soft plastic baits?
Most use shad or garlic to crappie baits.
I make an anise scent that goes in with bagged baits. I never use salt. The anise scent is more for a cover than actually having fish like it.
I am like ctom I never use salt also I never use a cover sent if I use anything to mask human odor I use crappie nibbles . O I forgot do not add crappie nibbles to your plastic when you are heating it up .
Waiste of dollars putting it in the hot plastic IMO, Shake them in a container of scent, Let it absorb, and Bag them.
Gulp alive is biodegradeable where plastisol is not.
You certainly can put it in there. Imo its just a waiste of money. As most of it smokes off, i just prefer to put my baits in a plastic box. Shake them around in scent then bag them.
Have to agree with you to a point,
that is until I tried using coffee grounds mixed into the plastisol.
I was skeptic at first, then added about two table spoonfuls to about 4oz of plastisol,
foamed up a bit didn't pour until things stabilized, (have to admit coffee smell sure filled the man cave) let things cool next day bagged them with a little worm oil. to this day if the bag is opened the coffee aroma still there.
Not saying this will work for everyone,
but used bait with coffee grounds, and the same bait without (which I had my fishing buddy use) I won't compare the the tally, but lets say it made me a believer, and you can use the throw away grounds and save $$$$$.
Ones never to old to try something over a cup of coffee and reuse the grounds
billygee
Oh i could see that. Grounds are solid. I meant liquid scent. For the record, i got scent that is slmost dead on to them kvd baits.. we call it cappucino. I never tried the coffee grounds tho.
Tour....you can add anything that is OIL based to your plastic before cooking but I suggest using only those products sold where you buy your plastic making products. I don't cook in because too much of the scent is lost to the heat while cooking. And you can change the scent's smell by cooking it too. I mix some anise oil in worm oil [6 ounces of worm oil to 1/2 ounce of anise oil] and add maybe 5-6 drops of this blend to a bag of baits. This goes a long, long way. I think dipping would create a mess.
yes I've even added on enamel paint to my plastic which is oil based even oil paints in the tube that the artist use I've even used it it works quite well the good thing about using oil paint the type that artist use is the wide variety of colors sometimes you will find that type of oil-based paint on sale. in a little warning here be careful if you are experimenting adding different types of stuff to plastic never never never use water based stuff in your plastic it will definitely explode
Every species of fish seem to like a little something different But for ME. I Don't scent any of my plastics. I have always done better with no scent added to my plastics. I use soft plastic and say if it doesn't wiggle your not catching fish.
Like I say that's just my opinion. But if I add any scent to any of my plastics I just add a couple drops to a bag of my plastics and let them adsorb the scent in the bag
I don't use scent on my own baits and like Perch prefer to use soft plastic that moves without having to move it. For those wondering about an anise scent, here's the link to where I get mine at. NOW Foods - the official site of NOW Foods Click the link and find essential oils. I think I paid about $6.00 per bottle and the shipping was free. I got two bottles about four years ago and still haven't found the bottom of the first bottle. This oil is super, super potent.
all kidding aside guys I really don't use anything when I'm fishing with my plastics except maybe a crappie nibble if they get finicky about biting can't tell you how many hundreds of crappie that I have caught in my life without using anything in the way of some type of bait. . One maybe you never heard of out south here we used to use WD-40 and spray are spinning glows when we were fishing for salmon licorice oil I call it is very common that use it on anything and everything when it comes to fishing out West. there is one deadly thing you can do to catch crappie take a piece of their meat and put it on your jig they cannot resist it. years ago before we had any money to buy any jigs we used to catch one crappie and make cut bait strips and hang on a single hook underneath a float it is probably one of the deadliest combination there is yet.
Bob, Good ideal on the bait but if I'm not mistaken in Texas its illegal to use game fish for bait.nonono
Anyone that sells molds and plastic should have worm oil. Its not expensive.
My Dad was a golfer. Never heard of worm oil nor bait bags. I am going to start making baits and do have quite a few hanging out in various locations. Ordered worm oil, have anise oil and the juice that comes with Gulp Alive. What would you think of putting them in the Gulp juice for a few days before putting them in scented bait bags?
I found that out the hard way about five years ago. I am glad I was wearing protective clothing, boots, welding gloves and protective eyewear. I do not care what people say when I dress like that to do plastic lures. I dress in protective gear so I will not get burned again!!!

Look in any grocery store or Walmart where the salt and pepper etc is. Really inexpensive. A $5 bottle will last you about a year. Bob..I do not believe it is legal to contaminate public waters with WD-40 scented baits. I would advise people NOT to use it especially when other legal scents and anise are cheap and readily available.
I have tried the Gulp Alive fluid and leaving some plastics in it to sort of super charge them but the plastic will turn opaque. The Gulp stuff is best applied when the bait it on a jig. Try spraying or dipping it on a few plastics and allowing them to dry. It still works when they are hung on the hook but it won't wash off so fast. Just a little of this Gulp goes a real long way.
As mentioned, DON'T put the Gulp liquid in the plastic to cook it in.
