They look fine, be sure to try and cut the tail off at a vent line. This will help getting a nice clean bond. It will be nearly impossible to get them to look like Arkansas Bowhunters, as he is using s tail mold.
But they look good, let me know if you have issues with pouring. :) be sure to make a date to stop by the shop to. :)
I rushed these my neighbor cut the tails long he wanted to help! One thing about these molds I wanted to see if I didn't have a twin injector how the venting would work with shooting one side then put the mold together and shoot the wild cat color . I was more than surprised how it performs the cavities filled and although it was rushed and sloppy I wanted to see if it was going to be finicky it was not! This weekend it's calling for rain and hopefully I'm caught up with all the hair jigs I'm tying for customers. Then we will spend time making some stuff! I'm loving this mold and how it performs!
I might could make some lam plates, Arkbowhunt asked me about them as well. Heck i thought you cut the rail and shot with a dual injector anyhow. :)
I have twin injectors...I can do a true lam. I want to do some core shots to! I need to get settled and pour some duel colors for testing.... When our water levels get back to normal I want baits to fish!
yes you want to make sure that when you jerk the bodies off to get up below the vent line yes I make sure that when I pulled the bodies I go back in with a pair of tweezers and if there's a little bit left I make sure that I get it below that line.

Thats one thing i never mastered was a core shot. Maybe you can show me how to do it right. Lol
I have done core shot here is how you do it either take a piece of tinfoil or get a laminate plate and shoot half of the mold and take a toothpick with some coloring and put a small.of that on the end of the cavity and put the mold back together and shoot it usually with clear plastic on both sides now with all that top information you'll me a free mold:Rofl
Got ya, thats not really the core shot i was talking about. In general a core shot the first color is hand poured into the sprue. The second color is then injected. The cooling plastic sucks the second color down the center of the bait.
The method you speak of is the Micro Spoons method.
A true core shot can only be done with single cavity molds unless the molds are designed for it I believe. A core shot is when the inner "core" colour is actually shot through the middle of the outer colour. Keith's method of having the plastic drag raw colourant through the bait makes an incredible looking bait but isn't really a core shot.
you won't get a true core shot on a multi cavity hand injection mold, it has to do with the way they fill. I have tried it MANY times and seen it tried many more than that. A single cavity lets you pour the plastic in the short runner and immediately inject the inner colour through it.
This is what I am referring to

The red is plastic, not colourant and it is inside the clear plastic. I made it by pouring the clear in the runner (or sprue if you will) and then injecting the red through it.
a couple more (it is not a red body, it's the same as the lizard, clear body and red core)

Here is a 3 colour core shot, Red, pearl blue and a white core.

AC is spot on with core shots and single cavity molds. Things go haywire in a hurry if the core shot done as he describes is tried in a multi-cavity mold. The line colors as Bob describes is a nice alternative to a true core and is what I prefer over the true core. A multi-cavity mold works great for the line color, but the line colors take more time and can be messy. Some wild looking baits can come from the line color though. The line colors can be done in almost any mold which makes the process a whole lot more applicable for someone trying to catch some shoppers' eyes. I can't say that I have seen an instance in using either type of baits where the cores or lines do any better than solid colors or baits with tail colors. Fun stuff to play with.
Folks, Where can these techniques be learned without standing over a guys shoulder to learn?
Where do you get your supplies? I've always wanted to learn, but didn't know where to start!
Kind Regards,
