End of Year Fishing Report

As is the case for a lot of people it is time to go back to work tomorrow, I hate that it rained basically everyday, but I made the best of it including the fishing. Was fortunate enough to get out on 5 fishing trips over break and was honestly surprised that they were pretty good with all the fresh water that is in the lakes. 2 of the 5 trips resulted in limits and the other trips a decent mess was brought home. Methods of choice was tightlining on Murray and the last couple of trips were jigging on Greenwood. I will say this don't let the rising waters muddy waters keep you from going. I know one day last week I started not to even go with all the rain, but since the wife was working and I was off I put the rainsuit on and went. I was thinking I would be lucky to catch a fish with the flood gates open and mud rolling down the main lake. To my surprise I found them and ended up with a nice limit of crappie to bring home. All the fish caught jigging were on a Yellow fish Stalker Slab Tail Jig, they preferred jigs over minnows. Hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Way to go Roland! The one certain, you can't catch'em if ya don't go. Congrats on finding time to put some fish in the box.

Curious about how the rods are dipping into the water. Is that normal and how much weight did you have on in addition to the jigs?

They are about 3-4 inches above the water, was using 3/4 oz weights. I generally like them close to the water, it's just my preference, it allows me to judge the depth better.

Mind if I ask how you rig that with 3/4 oz and jig?
I just got tight line rods for Christmas

I generally rig it with a 12-14 inch leader and swivel, basically like a Carolina rig or Catfish rig. I will also sometimes tie a loop and put a gold hook 2-3 foot above the lead if I am fishing deep enough water. Sometimes I fish with 1/4 or 1/2 oz lead but have gotten where I like the 3/4 so I can cover more water, it also depends on the depth of water I am fishing as well (deeper = heavier weight).

It depends but generally 0.4-0.6 if I am searching, once I find a few fish may slow it down if they wanting it slow.

Congratulations S-Town!! That's a good mess of fish! I'm also not looking forward of going back to work tomorrow, been off the last 4 days. I don't have much luck catching crappie at Murray, but I guess that's okay right now because I've been having fun chasing the stripers. Thanks for the report and pics.

Hey Ward let me know when you want to try the Lake Murry crappie up river. If weather is good sat may go and try pulling or tight lining.

Hey Don, thanks for the invite. We definitely have to get together again soon. I'll have to see what this weekend holds.

Mark that invitation goes for you to. I want to fish Murray more in the future. Because of health problems I have a hard time fishing two days in a row but if I can have a day to rest I can go every other day. Takes that long to recharge the old batteries, not boat batteries.

Thanks Don and by the way I went striper fishing yesterday on the lake and did pretty good. They were between 25 to 29 inches.

Great report Roland! Catching limits and fish like that is def. impressive in the flood waters. Shouldn't be too long before the water straightens out a bit I hope.
